of course in the spirit of biotso (blame it on the significant other) any time I get MY, repeat MY bench clean....suddenly flower pots or a wreath or something else shows up...with....it was clear so I didn't think you were using it to work on anything....... so I defend my space with clutter

I had to declutter my entire garage before starting this project. I had boxes filling up 2 car spaces and threw out half of it. Theres an idea for every space. Just need to be a little creative.

My problem in a nutshell.
If my workbench is clean it becomes a potting bench (because the potting bench is too cluttered to get anything done)

Mine is a work in process. This is its current state, well almost. I am still going through stuff, consolidating and sorting after the move.

Meantime, other projects get in the way of getting serious including the process of separating automotive from bike from general, plus a bit of wood working stuff.

As much as I would like to display the bikes, the center storage on the ceiling is working out great and will likely stay. Note the offset between bikes allows more condensed spacing of about 11" between hoists. Bench may be reduced in size and shelving will likely be relocated/replaced.

Part of the challenge is to leave enough space for a future motorcycle where the picture was taken.

My favorite things about this image are the 1) Russian River beer sign (wonderful brews!) and 2) the shallow shelf with clear tubs for organizing parts. Great idea. Depth really isn't necessary as that is what causes parts to not be seen then only to be "discovered" a few years later so force this by keeping the shelf shallow. Nice setup!

the tubs work really well. i actually have all of those shelves filled with them now, sorted by kind of part. Being able to see into them without opening them is really nice.

the Russian River sign came from my last visit to the brewery, which i visit every time i'm out that way. Love that place! Get the wings if you go!

My bike workshop shares space with a car, a kayak and other hobby gear, and I'm from the camp where tools are put away in a tool chest, so not much to see. But I do want to share my home built bike stand. It's made from a cart, sourced from amazon for not too much and a fork mount, also cheap. I shortened the middle legs some, may shorten it more. The bb sits on a padded pedestal stand long enough to range all my bikes. I want to add either a tire tray from a hitch rack or an axle mount from a trainer so that I don't have to remove the front wheel, although it is more stable this way. This stand brings most work up to eye level, is very stable, works great for tuning drive trains, spins around for easy access to both sides of the bike. The tray is a great place for parts and tools and catches dirt and fluids which would otherwise dirty the shop.
This is the most stable stand for tightening and loosening bb cups that I have ever used.

The rolling cart idea is brilliant! It improves upon some of the drawbacks of stationary stands.

My Garage / shop.

I built custom cabinets here for 40 years before I retired and started fixing up bikes for the Bike Exchange. It doesn't always look this messy, just when I'm working on something. I tidy up at least once a year. The cheap plastic ($35.) pole mounted bike stand I bought from Amazon is one of my favorite tools. It allows me to swing the bike about 270 degrees so I can work on both sides without taking it off the stand and reversing it. The only thing you have to watch out for is if you support it by the seat post let the front end drop till it is balanced before you lock the bike in position . Otherwise you will soon strip the teeth in the locking mechanism.

How do you have these wheels hung up? My big challenge is finding a why to store my accumulated wheels AND be able to get to them. Most are "projects"; they need cleaning, etc. I need to store them in as compact a space as possible yet still be able to reach them without having to rifle through them to get to one.

Hello! I hung them with regular bike hooks about 4-5 inches apart and at a 45 degree angle so they all fit in tightly. I mounted the hooks to a 2x4 so I could do it all neatly and measured, then hung the 2x4 on the ceiling with a screw at each end and one in the middle!
