27" racing Tires
Hi All,
Buddy in the UK has a Vintage Roberts rolling around on 27" wheels.
The whole rubber/rolling part is a bit suspect.
I know going 700c is likely worth the change if the frame/brakes will tolerate the change
But, are there any racing tires still available in 27" x ~1"

Death fork? Naaaah!!
I wouldn't exactly call it a racing tire, but The Panaracer Pasela is available in 27x1". I have a set on the Viscount.

If by "racing tires" the OP meant narrow tires, the 1" Pasela tires measure about the same as most other's 1-1/8" tires, or about 26mm wide.
Still, these would fit virtually all frames that were made for 27" tires, though fenders might be another story.
The much narrower IRC Triathlon in 1" size might have been the last popular brand/model that measured like 1980's 1" tires (like 20mm tires, 20-22mm actual).
Performance also sold skinny 1" tires pretty late in the game. Not much available these days measuring that small though. I have a decent inventory myself of older 1" racing-type folding tires.

+1 on the Pasela 27 x 1. If you want to go narrower that that or wider than 27 x 1 3/8 (about 35mm) then yes convert to 700c otherwise there are lots of 27" tires out there see the sticky thread on this very subject.

I think I have a pair of 27x7/8 tires although I may have thrown them out. Free for shipping if you want them and I have them. They are really narrow, about like a 700x20 or something...

I think he’s convinced himself to go 700c. It’s a nice bike and very worth it.

Continental Ultra Sport II are available in 27x1-1/8 and 1-1/4. They're remarkably good tires for the money, usually less than $20 each. Conti lists them as suitable for training and amateur racing and I'd say that's an accurate description.
I've used them in 700x23 and x25 for a couple of years and have no complaints. Reasonably low rolling resistance even at reduced pressure for comfort on rough roads. Great grip and durability.
I can't feel any difference between the 700x25 Ultra Sport II and the Conti Grand Prix Classic skinwalls that cost twice as much. Both are very good, but the Ultra Sport II is a high value bargain.
Not quite as low rolling resistance as the Schwalbe One V-Guards I used to ride, but much more durable and better grip. I had to retire the Schwalbes due to cuts long before the tread was worn out.
Far superior to the comparably priced Vittoria Zaffiro which had mediocre grip, cut easily, were harsh at high pressure and sluggish at lower pressure.

Go 700c. No question about it if racing is in the bike's future. And if not, go with 700c anyway.
I did just that on my old Legnano, which has sported 27" wheels since I built it up. That said, I found a lovely set of Campy high flange Legnano pantographed hubs laced to Weinmann 700c concave rims. With that find, I could find no reason to not swap the twenty sevens for seven hundreds. And really glad that I did so...
