The C&V Antiviral Thread
If you're tired of hearing about it, tired of the politics, the redundant news stories, etc, then come here and post about what you did C&V today without mentioning the virus!
I rode 25 miles today on this bike, and had an absolute blast. Went from 23.6 pounds to 21.6 with the upgrades. Downtube shifters on a 3x9 is awesome! Ask me about it. Tell me your own story about today. Show me the pics.
So, whaddya got?

In between bouts of studying I took a walk - yup, a walk - on my local MUP for an hour or so. Nice weather - I wore shorts!

Took my Bianchi out this morning well before the rain was supposed to start. . . and of course got rained on. Still a nice ride though. Sorry no pictures.

The MUP behind my house had a lot of people on it when my wife and I went for a walk this afternoon. Since I'm usually at work at this time, I asked Juliana if this was normal. She said no, but it was a nice day, clear, 60, plus kids are all home. Lots of older people out walking as well.
I did not see any large teddy bears, however.

I spent some time going around in circles about ordering spokes. I have a wheelset I am building. I got some 6400 hubs and some shiny new rims. I went to EDD and got the spoke length calculations about a week ago. I went to Dan's Comp, but they only have one spoke listed. More research on the web reveals that they got bought out. You need to call and order over the phone. So, I call yesterday. The person tells me they only carry that one spoke. I wanted Sapim Race like I got before. Now what do I do? Today I spent time reading up on Wheelsmith and DT and cruising various sites checking prices. When did ordering stuff become so difficult? Hopefully by the weekend I will have some type of spokes ordered for the build. Maybe, maybe not. Uuuugggghh!

I ordered some silver to braze 3 cable guides onto a frame.
Cant find my current stuff- the house gremlins stole it, so I had to buy more.
Not the cheapest metal either.
No riding, it stormed all thru the night and morning.

Worked from home all day and then went to the workshop in the evening to do some work on the new project. Sanded out a 50s Pivo 25.0 stem to take a 25.4 handlebar. And did some associated component cleaning and rust treatment.

Did the Cambridge reservoir loop with an out-and-back spur to Walden pond with my buddy Cycles René Hubris co-founder and Cambridge Vitus Club charter member Kevin, on our Vitus 979s. Waaay too fast a ride. Passed some expensive carbon on my $200 antique, which is always fun. I'm so beat, but thanks to the BioPace rings I just put on and my warmup routine of Bulgarian split squats, my knees don't hurt. Unfortunately, Kevin still trounced me on pretty much every climb. Sometimes it's just not my day to be fastest. The roads were enjoyably vacant and I, too, wore shorts.
I did this a while ago, to the peeling and illegible Vitus decal, because I do HIV research. Different virus.

Yes. I've even made reproduction cables for them. What do you want to know?

I scored a pair of campy aero pedals and now I am trying to make a set of toe clips for them. I am thinking I can just take traditional toe clips straighten the mounting flange, grind to the correct profile and drill some slots. It should make for a good afternoon and some bloody fingers.

I took a two mile walk up and down the roads and cul-de-sacs in our neighborhood including the 2 steep inclines and descents. This is helping to rehab my left leg from my back and left sciatic injury of 5 weeks ago. I hadn’t ridden these hills so not sure how well I’d do on them. But hopefully when I’m better, I’ll find out.
also had my bike overhauled by the LBS and on Friday I’ll pick it up and also get a new fitting to see if my own fitting was far off.
then after taxes are done, I’ll start cycling again and building up a couple of frames.

Was in Bangkok for a med check, cystoscopy, flew from Bangkok today hoping I could get back in to Cambodia. For some reason Cambodia closed its borders to people coming from America. Was wondering if it refered to America as a point of origin or just Americans. Any way I am back in Cambodia. Ready to build my 29r BMX.

Went for a run around the local pond, and it was crowded! It’s an awkward dance to see people trying to give everyone ample clearance and hoping no one blows a snot rocket.

I most often buy from a seller yojimbogarage on eBay. He’ll cut to your length and Wheelsmith DB14’s are usually around $1 each. I’m sometimes able to find cheaper than that but it’s hit or miss on availability. If you’re thinking of a straight gauge spoke, drop me a line with length. I have a bunch. I’ve been thinking about a wheel build because I find it pretty relaxing.

Speaking of wheelsets, there is a Campy Athena(I think)-Ambrosia/Regina wheelset on my CL at the moment. Price looks a little steep for the current state of the market. If the price drops enough to interest you, contact me and I will pick them up.
Thanks for the info.
