Crankset recommendations for Rohloff?
I'm currently using a SRAM S300 1.1 GXP Crankset on my Rohloff Speedhub equipped bike. Problem is, the chainline is 43.5 mm. Given the 135 mm width of the hub, the chain is angled in rather sharply, enough so, that there is a bit of a grinding sound when pedaling. I need a chainline of about 10 mm more to get the chain straight. Any recommendations on a crankset with a 50 - 55 mm chainline? The current crank is an external BB. I suspect I'll need a square taper or other BB to get that width. (Are those other BB's compatible with an external BB frame?)

External bearing BBs thread into the BB shell just as most all tapered square BBs do. 10mm of chainline offness is a lot. Getting it below 5mm will make a big difference, especially if you like to run your chains with tension (What's the correct chain tension for a non deraillure system? No tension of course. Too tight a chain can cause all kinds of wear and noises and can wear the rear hub and BB faster then otherwise)
It's been a while since I worked on a Rohloff. If the cog has spacers or a dish that might reduce the chainline offness too. Andy
