Moving furniture or a lawnmower with a bike

Yeah, it sounds like a lot but it kinda makes sense. Where I live to get to some of the thrift stores you have to fight a lot of traffic, but there is a bike path that goes straight to those stores. I doubt that a full size couch could fit, though it would be really nice if that were possible. An additional purpose of a bike trailer would be transporting a electric lawnmower for local lawn mowing jobs. Especially with a very low load floor it would be in many ways better than a car.

I've looked at a few bike cargo trailers. Unfortunately, they're generally pretty narrow. This one on amazon is like 16 inches across.

https://www.amazon.com/Aosom-Foldabl...A3LRDQCJ73A2H4

Meanwhile, the ego mower is 22.5 inches across.

Another problem is how much space the wheels take up because they tend to be on the side and boxing in the cargo wheels.

Surly looks like it has an interesting one though it is $800. Has anyone appropriated even like a small automobile trailer to pull with a bicycle?

I wouldn't foresee any special problem with a little electric lawnmower.

Furniture is a different story. Flatbed bike trailers exist but good ones are not cheap and unlike retail bikes. The Surly one is kind of special, and it works best with their special hitch, which I think is still available on the Ogre. I don't think there are any cheap bad ones. Bikeforums member tcs has or had a bookmobile that was as big as a dresser. The diffidently housed around here can sometimes be seen with pretty elaborate trailers but they are always built on a kid trailer chassis and look overwhelmed. There are utility bikes like ice cream carts, maybe pull that thread

...I have actually seen at least one person pulling a lawn mower behind a bicycle here, using the wheels of the mower as the "trailer" wheels.
It might not work if the mower you are using is self propelled, and I'm not sure how it handles on the road, for longer distances.

But basically you just need some sort of design that allows you to attach the mower handle to your rear rack, with a two point attachment to steady the pull and keep it straight. I would guess that some sort of pivot mechanism, like on a ball hitch, with a home made trailer tongue that grabs the mower, would be the deluxe version. That EGO mower has the "patented fold flat handle, and the easy instant deck height adjustment," (I watched the video). so with a two point attachment to the front or rear of the deck (reinforced), it seems like it would roll OK behind a bike.

I have used the Carla Cargo and yes it seems expensive to someone cheap but it is a good trailer and really nice to use and is actually practical for holding a lot of weight. I carried 7 bikes on it and it was quite easy to ride and the braking was quite helpful. Yes you can make one with cheap materials but if you are looking to haul stuff on the regular spend your money on something that will last a long time and work really well and enjoy hauling cargo.

And as if lawn care folks are paid in solid gold eggs that they don’t have to worry about the time it takes to get from one job to the next.

I think I’m going to put my slightly used bridges in Brooklyn up for sale. Maybe a BOGO sale.

As a kid I would sometimes ride my bike to lawn mowing jobs riding one handed while holding the mower with my right hand. Not a long distance and on wide residential streets. But in retrospect I'm not sure how I avoided disaster. I wouldn't attempt such a feat now.

Just repurpose an old kid's trailer. Already has the bottom frame and wheel attachment, just take out the fabric part and bolt a piece of ply to the frame. Add sides as needed using angle brackets and additional pieces of ply. Want lighter, use thick plexiglass instead. The trailer can be found used fairly affordably and the rest just depends on how exotic you want to get.

Stand the mower on end to fit it on a narrower trailer.

If you are in the USA, go rent a truck and take it on the road. You'll annoy the heck out of all the other people enjoying the bike path and look like a jerk to them. Most if not all the bike paths and MUPs around here are intended for recreation and enjoyment.

I pull a 4 wheel cart behind my bike all the time when servicing neighbors houses for gutter cleaning or mowing the lawn. Just hold on to the handle with one hand and go. Down hills are a bit sketchy, however speed control keeps it all under control. Way back when I was a teen my friend and I mowed lawns. We both pulled our mowers behind our bikes. Furthest we had to go was 1 mile. Many decades later I'm doing the same thing.

Not sure what the fuss and confusion is all about.

A bicycle trailer is a bicycle trailer is a bicycle trailer. It's not a turbo charger for your car. It's a bicycle trailer.

I'm quite sure this is daily life in India, China.
