With all the good choices available, what about these tires and rims makes them worth putting up with the difficulty mounting or removing them? I see there are ways to make it easier like the hair drier, but don't you folks ever get flats on the road?
You are, as usual, correct. But you don't know what it's like to finally
get that Schwalbe or Vredestein on the rim and be able to pump the
sucker up to 160#....it's almost like looking down from Olympus on
the rest of the hoi polloi.

And as someone else mentioned, after they've been pumped to
pressure and ridden for a while, they seem to be a little more
manageable.

Also, i carry a bead jack in my messenger bag now.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

I am so-o-o-o-o out of it. I've been riding top quality tubulars (Clement Tipo 6, until that ended) and never once felt the need to go beyond 7atm (105psi), even for loaded touring. When I made PV guages they had a 0-160psi scale because that was most accurate between 80-120psi. I still don't get the desire to ride on tires that handle like basketballs.

Not preaching, as I said I'm old tech and it's way too late for this tiger to change his gray stripes.

That's funny.
