Met with forum member Steve W. He was on his gorgeous Paramount and I on the '58 V.Edwards-Pug.
Good little run on the beautiful Prairie Trail along the Fox River west of Chicago. Though quite surprised in one area thru the woods, fast narrow sweepers, very short but steep pitch hills. That wasn't much the challenge but for the damp asphalt, with mold and moss growth.
Both of us riding tubulars, mine are slicks, probably 23mm. Riding the whoops and then sharp turns at the bottoms was fun except for some spots were like riding on grease! Hair raising getting some front wheel slide, let up on the hooks and then more applied to the rear for that tail drifting.
A few hills were intense enough that you can't stop from even a few MPH. Steep enough at full brake, gravity takes over and the greasy asphalt makes you skid the way down. Definitely a skill builder. Also doubt one could walk it up or down if wearing road race shoes, clipped or old school cleats.
Oh, one more brain fart....
I last used this bike a few weeks ago at the Dairyland Dare. Hadn't looked it over since and completely forgot having my spare tubular on the rear. Had a blowout at the Dare and my spare wasn't exactly glued on. So today I was romping on it and in those crazy whoop's, cornering at speed! That and my AVA 'death stem' loosened at the handlebar clamp. No drama - LOL

See, I keep telling all that gobs of glue isn't the answer - there's proof!
Typically I'm not riding in photogenic, picturesque places. This is a portion of Tufts Vet school in Grafton, MA. Pretty nice place to learn veterinarian skills. I don't know the history, but an old state facility of some sort. There are multiple clinics located on the campus, thankfully we've only used the wildlife clinic, which operates on donations.

About the most exciting part of the ride was going down a steep hill with the brakes on, hitting the moss and sliding out of control and off of the trail into the weeds and grass just missing a tree. I got control before doing any damage (another by the hand of god moment). I chickened out of the rest of those steep drops and walked the bike as the signs suggested. This part of the trail is for serious riders. I will try it again when it is dry and I can go slow to get to know the terrain a bit better. Scott is insane. LOL
Edit: I also want modern brakes on the bike I do this on. LOL

Sorry no C&V ride but gonna treat to this anyway
Was supposed to do a race last weekend, but it was cancelled, so me and the other colleagues that was supposed to race, went for an epic trip in some semi local mountains. It was a fantastic day out.
At the bottom of a brutal climb here. 8 km's and 10% average gradient. It's actually the valley floor from the previous pic.

The CCRT is 22 miles long from Dennis to Wellfleet so the round trip is 44 miles. Most of it is flat but with two bridges over Rt 6 to test your gearing. Plus we'll throw in a short spin over to the Atlantic. Plus there is a great coffee/chocolate shop in Orleans about half way.
Classic bike, modern bike, any bike at all that can go as far as you want to ride! (Most of us will be on C&V bikes.)

I've taken to riding out through the lovely borough, Northborough (not to be confused with the other borough of the very nasty storm drains). Not only have I not seen one wheel-eater storm drain in Northborough, residents exhibit a finely-tuned sense of humor.

Today we had spectacular weather in New England, temps starting cool and getting up to maybe 75F, humidity off the charts low, clear blue sky. We had no need to stop under a giant snowman, though one cyclist who pulled up beside us as at a stoplight said it was going to snow tomorrow. I told him Don't say that!
We did 62.1 miles on the tandem. Not quite a metric. Had to conserve energy as we are going to be riding with a friend tomorrow.
First stop, Walden Pond:
As usual we stopped at Fern's General Store for lunch. Nary a bicycle in sight when we arrived. Twenty minutes later a zillion bikes showed up, including two other tandems. We had a nice conversation with one of the teams. Then I recognized someone I used to work with 8 or 9 years ago so we spent time discussing those old days. A very pleasant interlude in the middle of a long day on the bike.
Of course on the return we passed by Hutchins Organic Farm so we had to stop, now didn't we?
And of course my sweetie just had to load up the panniers with peppers, zucchini, various greens, even potatoes:
Finally, continuing the sequence of interesting signs in metro northwest:
