82.5 km on the 87 Prelude. Hot and muggy and overcast, keeping me out later than I should have been. Working up to a century a month after the new year. Winter months only.

I can attest to that. Your Ebisu looks stunning in person.

Not an easy life, but, I think, far more interesting than most. Travelled across North America, north almost to the Artic Circle, south into Mexico, then, after some 'interesting years', landed in the research group at Raytheon at the advent of 'solid state', then crystals and lasers. He biked a lot, finally moving to derailleurs in the later 60's, with an Atala, then a Frejus. Ran a tandem for a blind woman for quite a few years. Tinkered in the beginnings of the SCCA, until some sort of 'event', of which I have no recollection. Famously, he and another left George Weaver's Maserati somewhere in the wilds of NH or Vermont when the brakes on the truck failed. George was jumping up and down, told them they should have driven the Maserati to town. (This was a single seat, open-wheel car...) From that he moved on to another childhood love, sailing. We spent many Summer weeks wandering somewhere between NYC and Maine. Enjoyed every minute of it, I'm pretty certain.

Thank you for your comments.

And shows you really get around! I'll have to try that on the metric century loop I ride around here. @obrentharris, have you got a link that explains how to do this?

Here's the link I used to import the ride from my Garmin. The only thing the link doesn't tell you is how to save the image once you have it on the screen: One of the little icons in the tool bar on the Google Earth screen is for "save image." You can use this to save it as a .jpg file to your computer. https://support.google.com/earth/ans...6761&ctx=topic

Looked back to see a pit bull getting ready to come at me a second time. I yelled and it ran back to its yard (this is a rural area). I looked down and saw a lot of blood and the pain was getting more intense. After getting off the bike I realized I could see the tendon on the front of my leg. He also got the back of my calf. This ain't good, I thought. Our mail lady saw me limping and turned around to come help. I thought I might be going into shock , definitely wasn't feeling good, and sat down. After 10 minutes I felt a little better and was able to ride back to my car, change and wait for my wife to take me back to the hospital. The doctor's office sent us there since there was torn flesh.

The hospital is required to report all dog bites to the police. A deputy showed up and took a report. The dog will be classified as a dangerous dog. I guess two sherriff's cars were at the owners house. I'll get the police report and send it to my health carrier. What got me is the owner admitted to me her dog doesn't like cyclist. The what he** was it doing out in the unfenced yard.

Unfortunately the hospital says they don't do stitches on the deep bites anymore due to risk of infection. That means a lot longer healing and more time off the bike.
Wow, just now seeing this as I was checking on the people I met on my "Tour de Washington State" ride! Ouch!

It's rare to have a dog chase after you without any barking. That dog is a menace. Perhaps a threat of a lawsuit will change the owner's ways...

I had thought our tandem needed lots of attention but I managed to get some work done on it this week so we took it out again today, 40.35 miles. A cool but brilliant New England day.

The sugar maples in our neighborhood have turned brilliant orange. Some pre-ride pics over our house.

Not so bright but still nice, a stop at Lexington Green, with Buckman Tavern in the background.

And of course some post-ride libation.

I rode my Basso 67 hilly miles up the hills alongside the Delaware River, accompanied by a college friend of my brother's and the nephew of another college friend of my brother's. Hey, second hand bikes and second hand friends, it's all good, right?

We were pretty fast, or so it seemed to me. Average speed 15.0 mph.

No photos, but there was one moment, when the sunlight first hit the surface of the Delaware River, illuminating the water vapor riding from the surface and condensing as it rose, with a lovely fiery effect. Wish I'd got a photo of that!

I know. But what are we about, here, anyway? When I go out on the bike, I'm out for a ride. It's not a photography expedition. The best things I see, I can't catch them on pixels. I don't have a camera in hand all the time. My hands are on the hoods, or the bar, and I'm looking around, seeing what in seeing (several deer today, and an iPad, not to mention everything else). That's what riding is all about, no?

Absolutely! (A few weeks ago I posted about a ride on the Masi where I took no camera.) But one of the wonderful things about this thread is it lets us ride vicariously in parts of the world we will likely never see.

Cheers, everyone! Happy end of October, which we seem to have survived. Best of everything to everyone in November!

30 very hilly miles today in upstate SC, with my oldest son. Colors are about to peak there, and are much richer than what we're seeing in the midlands. Man, am I out of shape!

I rode 30 minutes on one of the recumbents in my gym. Glad I didnt ride an actual bike as I had debated doing, because it started POURING about 15 minutes into my 'ride'. Wouldnt have been pretty..

35 miles in cool cloudy weather after overnight rain. I took the Roberts due to the fenders, was uneventful and somewhat lonely compared to a couple weeks ago (few bikers). The only excitement was a front flat on a downhill before a traffic light, but it all worked out.

Just in time with my October Minnehaha falls picture

Big engines on a rusty bridge crossing the Mississippi..
