Champion of the Low End
It's my Spring Break, so I rode from Hobart, Indiana to Chicago for a 3-day trip. This was my introduction to anything resembling touring, and I learned a lot.

We took the tandem out today and when we returned home the odo read 51.51 miles.
Today's stop at Fern's in the town of Carlisle is titled "Find the tandem in the pizza". Lots of bikes out today.
On a wall in Fern's there is an array of clocks. These are all towns adjoining Carlisle. The Carlisle clock has fern leaves for hands. The rest are about 15 minutes late. Except for Westford, the next town to the west, which is 30 minutes late. Gee, I guess there must be some local town rivalries going here. Ya' think?

A two ride day!
This morning we went out to the western metro and did just under 80 miles.
Ended up in St. Bonifacious for lunch.
Then Mrs. Gomango and I did a nice 23 mile ride to the Mpls. lakes and a bit around the warehouse district.
Stopped for lunch and coffee.
Here I am at the Stone Arch bridge by St. Anthony Falls and the recently retired lock and dam.

had a car appointment to swap winter to summer tires. Did not want to wait in the waiting room so I brought my bike and biked 10 miles to get a burrito. rest of the day was spent doing other things like stringing my hammock after a long hiatus and taking a nap in it. :-)

My son ( he is 14) organized a ride with 6 of his friends on one of the rail trails today. I went as the, "100 yards behind until I need money for a snack at the rest stop chaperon". I saw this crazy growth of kudzue(?) thatis still dormant due to winter.

We took out a couple of bikes yesterday and visited one of the top three cemeteries to visit, Alexandria National Cemetery. It pre-dates Arlington and is nestled in with multiple cemeteries of churches in Alexandria including Christs Church where George Washington attended. Of course there are people that were born before the founding of this country through those who passed last week.
Our interest was in finding a couple of well know individuals and discovered a couple we did not know about.

Nice ride today, although temperatures were sightly above 0 celsius, and strong headwind on the way back home. Still it was the longest trip this year, about 90 kilometers.

A packed weekend. 600 miles of driving to visit family, but still managed two rides.

I closed the 2015-16 daytime riding season a week late, apparently. I felt par boiled a good bit of the way. 111 km on my favorite route, to the north coast, second breakfast, and looping around to come back via a different road. I peed before I left, at 8:30 AM and not since, meantime consuming over 6 liters of fluids.
This is funny. It was so bright out, I couldn't really see what I was shooting. I could pick out shadows and shapes; not much more. Enjoy the pics

I took The Ancient Lobster out for a shakedown spin in Point Reyes National seashore today.
It's been hanging on a hook for about 20 years so it was time to give it some love and some exercise. A friend and I are entering the "1986-and-earlier" vintage category on our vintage Lobsters at the "Keyesville Classic Mountain Bike Stage Race" next weekend. Keyesville Classic Mountain Bike Stage Race New cables, brake pads, tubes, tires, and rim strips, some fresh grease, and a shakedown ride to make sure everything was working (including the rider.)
The bikes must be vintage but there is no vintage rider requirement so we shall see what the competition looks like: At the very least we'll give the youngsters something to shake their heads about!

That lobster is a gorgeous thing. I was just looking around for where that race actually is. It happens to be just north of where I was stationed for over 5 years. Wish I was more into biking when I was in that area. However, I did an incredible amount of hiking and camping. The desert is a beautiful place.
