I'm with you there. Cool old bikes... I do hate the price of Dura Ace AX brake hoods these days though (if you can find them)

Cool Bikes! The shimano AX bikes were probably the most popular (or unpopular in the day) aero bikes. Aero bikes also were avilable with other group sets. Suntour's cyclone II with Aero mighty cranks & Aero dia comp brakes was another option. These parts were quite radical but more practical than the AX groups. Ofmega also offered an aero crank with tear drop shaped arms. It's tear drop shapes were actually backward making them in effect non-aero. The most successful of the aero groups would have to be the first generation C-record although i don't think it was marketed as aero specifically.

I've had several aerowinds and this White's performer is most certainly a rebadged huffy. Same pinched downtube, same avocet aero suede saddle, same frame.

Balindamood, do you plan to repaint the Araya? What will you do about the stickers & tubing decals?

My Benotto is early 80's and is 'aero'. Most tubes are ovalised and the gear and brake cabling is internally routed.

Great, another chance to post pics of my funny bikes -- 1987 Team Fuji and 1987 Nashbar Aero Sprint. Now, to those who will inevitably respond with something like "oh my aching back," if you are fit and not suffering from some old man ailment, these bikes are fast alot of fun to ride.

Got a Univega Super Strada with full AX Aero group. Looking for brake lever hoods, too. I saw the bike in the window of Bicycle Man of Orange in '85 with a sign saying reduced from $800.00 to $650.00. Powerless in the grip of bicycle lust, I forked out the cash on a delivery driver's salarly. The clean looks are timeless.

The frame will be going to CycleArt or equivilent. All of the main skickers are OK enough for them to re-create. There were evidently some long script type decals along the top and seat tube which said god-knows-what; probably something touting the virtures of aerodynamics. I am hoping to find pictures of another before I send it later this year. If anyone else has an idea....

Wow, that Pinarello is a rarity. I didn't see anything like it in the '85 & '87 catalogs and then there was the Prologo in '88, I believe. I hope you can find out some more about it.

As for me, I don't really have any aero tubing but I have one of the coolest aero routed dropouts I've ever seen. The cable is routed through the underside of the chainstay and comes out where you see that plastic bit sticking out of the drop.


I'm just getting started on this project but it will have a 24" Araya Aero 4 on the front and a disc in the rear. I'd like to use Aero-G brakes but think I might need more reach so maybe AX.

Beautiful bikes, all of them. Someday I'll get the scratch to get a bike with Tange Aero tubing an AX components. Just need to pay down student loans and then I'm grabbing the first thing that fits.
