Widest, fattest fenders I can get?
I've got me a TOP SECRET project going on, and I'm gonna need some fenders.
The tires I'm going to use are the Maxxis Hookworm 26 x 2.5, so the fenders are going to need to be at least that wide.
I'd like them to be steel or alloy, and Gloss Black. They will be mounted on an old mtn bike frame.
Do I have any options? Or will I be fender-less?

Try looking for Wald's balloon tire fenders. But they may notbe quite wide enough I know they're at least 2" wide though. If you can find some to inspect in person you'll probably know whether or not they'll work. I think they even can be ordered in a black finish.

Wald does indeed have black, but their balloon tire width is 2.125. Close, but no cigar.

Hookworms are huge, you're going to need motorcycle fenders! I had a set on a 24" bmx bike that barely cleared the chainstays... Great tires despite the weight, grippy and tough as nails...

Hehehe.... yeah they are a tad on the big side. I'll probably end up going fender-less. It's gonna be a cool project when done, though!

I have SKS P65's are the biggest thing I can find that are not crusier style steel fenders. I have them stretched over 2.3" Nokians on 50mm rims.

I have the Wald 962s in black powder coat and they cover my Fat Franks (2.3") just fine. I had to fab notches at both the fork and the seat stays for them to fit. This is on the '91 Rockhopper that I am "retroveloing" FWIW.
They are very similar if not identical to those on the Retrovelos above. Also...they are nice and inexpensive.

Try Electra? The sell the fenders they put on the cruisers as aftermarket accessories. I'm sure there's an LBS near you that is an Electra dealer. The fenders look very much like those from Planet Bike.

Same here, I love that look and old Specialized bikes in general. The trails that I've been riding are mostly rocky, so fenders would drive me crazy with little rocks making that "zip!" sound all the time as they shoot up through the gap...

Edit: I see on their website that they do offer some parts, and Black Balloon Tire Fenders is one that they offer. No specs though, so I'm not sure of the width.

Must be a misunderstanding. I walked into an Electra dealer (Sport Chalet) and bought a fender kit off the rack to put on my friend's Townie. All the fasteners, etc, are pretty much standard bits.

Well, I was asking about specific fenders off of a specific bike, so maybe that's what he was talking about. I have a Sports Chalet here, and I'll check and see what sort of inventory they have. Thanks for that tip!
