Here's my rig loaded up for my first bike-packing adventure, a 5 day ride on the NCT from White Cloud to Mackinaw City. Unfortunately I had to bail out day 3 in Kalkaska, due to tweaking my knee in an attempt to prevent a crash.
The rack and trunk have since been replaced with a Banjo Brothers large seat bag (400 c/i), and today I'll be picking up a much larger Camelbak Ventoux to replace the current pack. Bedroll (fleece bag liner, space blanket, Big Agnes airbed) goes up front. Tent poles and pegs strap to the toptube. Tent body and fly, and cooking kit (beer can alcohol stove) go in the seat bag. Food, clothes for nighttime, extra socks and shorts, first aid and other incidentals will go in the pack. For that photo, the extra clothes and some food were in the trunk.
This weekend, I'll be doing a 3 day trip from just outside of Traverse City, up the NCT to Mackinaw, and then the Gaylord to Mackinaw rail trail and dirt roads back.
Here's an action shot near Sweet's Ravine (South of Mesick).

That's pretty awesome. I'm interested in doing some MTB/Trail touring sometime in the future. Seems a lot more interesting to me.

Not loaded up, but here's a picture of my Raleigh Passage. Since this picture was taken I've changed to a Brooks B68, changed to flat bars, and upgraded to an expedition rack.

My 2009 Surly LHT. I'm very proud of the way it looks. I'd love to have gone touring on it, but time's never been there, and it was more of a commuter anyways. It's up for sale now, so it won't be in my possession for too much longer, hopefully. Just wanted to post a picture on here before it was gone.

Nice bike - looks like Campy brifters with a Shimano XT rear derailleur. What is the exact configuration (3x8, 3x9, 3x10?) and how are they working together? Just wondering because I want to build up mine the same way, but without playing around with adaptors etc. Campagnolo does not make 135 mm rear hubs any more, so it will have to be something Shimano compatible......
I went with the cable orientation mentioned here.
It works well. It sometimes hops on the gears, but it's never very bad, and rarely ever jumps gears.
I thought about going the JTEK Shiftmate route, but I couldn't at the time because they were out of production and going for astronomical prices on eBay.
And you could also go with an American Classic Shimano splined Campy spaced cassette, though they aren't cheap.

Not safe for work
All this for an overnight trip? Ye gods, you are ready for anything. I like the butterfly bars. I'm leaning towards swapping out my risers (resembles somewhere between bmx style and ape hangers) so I can enjoy more hand positions. What kind of shifters and brake levers do you use?

Bags are awesome. Do you have a better picture of the front setup? I am interested int hat bungee from hb bag to wheel panniers. How much use have you put on them?

These are 25+ year old racks and bags. I don't think Eclipse makes bags and racks anymore. In their day, they were very nice.
One important thing to note about Eclipse racks and bags is that have a unique mounting scheme and were designed to work together as a system. If you could find some used, you could probably convert them to use a standard hook type system. I have about 5,000 miles of touring on these and they have held up very well. The handlebar bag uses the bungee cord to keep it on its mount. The other end of the bungee attaches to the rack or front wheel eyelet via an S hook.

Wow. Just wow.
Here is a picture of mine and my wife's bikes loaded up for a two night trip. We ended up coming back early because of rain though. Sad times.
Sorry for the crappy quality, I forgot to bring my camera so all I had was my phone.

That's exactly what it is. 3x9 with Campy Centaur 10s ergopower shifters and Deore XT rear, Tiagra front.
