To Sunscreen or Not to Sunscreen

I've been using this particular brand for 10 years plus. All of a sudden on my last purchase the container boldly states, "NO Oxybenzone, NO Octinoxate". SO...you're telling me the last four or five times I've purchased this in the past, these "dangerous" chemicals were in fact in the product??? I saw a tweet by Andrew Huberman saying he was researching this topic. I don't think he's posted it yet.

If I successfully dodge every evil thing out there, but finally succumb to some weird cancer due to a topical skin lotion, that will be a huge win.

My father died from skin cancer. It wasn’t pleasant, so I wear lots of sunscreen.

I once saw a sign at the grocery store declaring the bananas were gluten-free. By your logic, they must have contained gluten before that.

That new labeling does not necessarily mean those ingredients were previously used in that particular brand of sunscreen.

Valid points. But it's 50/50 to me still. Why would they make such a fuss about pointing out that this "bad" thing is NOT in their product? "Gluten-free" is perceived to be a positive thing.

Because it only recently came to light that certain sunscreens had the bad thing.

Can't be serious.
Surely there is a toll free number/email address right there on product?
SDS for product is public information?
If you had just included the brand name of this terrible poisonous concoction in the OP, wouldn't 500 people by now have posted the info you seek?

Consumer reports discusses sunscreens with and without dangerous chemicals and their effectiveness. I use Trader Joe’s SPF 50 spray on. Easy application, works well and safe. I never ride without it if the UV higher than 3.

My girlfriend dumped me after I got vaccinated. Getting dumped was never listed as a side effect. Big Pharma wins again.

Correlation is not causation and also, wouldn't that be a negative for Big Pharma?

Your "truth" will be much more welcome in the p&r subforum (if it's still open).

Number one: I will probably never get another vaccine again after the co-vid 19 thingamajig

Number two: Speak truth to power

Number three: I mostly came out unscathed from the whole pandemic ordeal because I just rode my bike, everyday, without a mask, and enjoyed life, outdoors...

I really should put on sunblock more often now that sunny weather is here again. The bummer is, since I’m old enough to have ridden Classic & Vintage bikes when they were new (but I couldn’t afford the good ones back then) well, I now have to put sunblock on top of my head! 🙄
The long hair I had at 22 didn’t stick around now at 62. Tan spots where my helmet vents are looks even more ridiculous. 😄

I first read it as "troll free".

Wishful thinking, I guess.

@squirtdad, first off, stop going for the Johnny Depp look, it's not working for you. Also, sun exposure while cycling is a big concern. Maybe not in your "Edward Scissorhands" fantasy land but for most people it's "cycling related". (I can't believe I had to type "squirtdad" to complete this post.)

Hmmm…there is a very familiar smell to these poorly-worded poll options…
