An Eroica CA 2023 thread with no complaining about the organization

I’m looking forward to this ride. For me, it’s about the fine bikes, the fine roads, and the fine folks who ride them. There are plenty of grand fondos and centuries out there but they do not interest me at all. I wonder how my lunges and bent over rows, and Chuck Taylors, and 50 year old delrin with a NOS 5 speed Sedis will enhance what is guaranteed to be a great day on the bike.

I'm also looking forward to it! Last year was my first time and I'm not a big "organized event" person, so the main happiness I found was just being able to hang out with some Bikeforum members at last!

I haven't actually signed up yet, as I'll get the student discount and am not in a big rush... Still tempted to do the Santa Lucia route but it'll be my anniversary so having the afternoon free to hang out with my wife may be a priority. She wouldn't mind really, so we'll see!

I've done every Eroica California since it started and I plan on doing this one. I have had a great time at all of these events , to some extent .I also look forward to this year and , except for reasons that have already been discussed , it will be fun. The part that cannot be changed or compromised by whatever happens with the organization , is the fine folks that show up to put faces to the people we chat with on this forum. I am looking forward to riding with my good friend Rich and whomever else I happen to meet. I've made some great friends and that is what is important to me . I mean , really , riding classic bikes, seeing other classic bikes , and talking about classic bikes? Yea .....I'm in!! For those that enjoyed the pre-ride on Saturday last year with Gugie (Mark) y'all know what is really cool about this.

Is it okay to complain about not being allowed to complain?

I'm going again this year, God willing and the creek don't rise, for exactly the reasons already mentioned. Basically, it's a gathering of the tribe, and that is never a bad thing. If absolutely nothing else, I will not willingly give up a chance to ride with Kabuki12 , one of the world's truly good people. Joe and I met at Eroica, we ride together at Eroica each year, and that alone makes it a can't-miss event. Add in all the other friends I've made through through Eroica and its unofficial offshoots, and add in all the in-person bike porn, and it is bike nerd-vana, at least to me.

Plus, if it weren't for Eroica, I likely would not be doing Cino this year. Ask me on the evening of July 23 if I think that is also bike nerd-vana.

Although I would like to, I have never participated in Eroica California, and chances are slim that I ever will, given the distance, the lack of time and the abundance of events here in Europe.

Having said that, I have participated in many C&V events big and small, including L'Eroica and its various spin-offs in Germany, Holland and England. And I have never ever been disappointed.

Oh I'll be there! Now for the big question: which bike to bring, and how do I want to style myself?

I'm tackling the Santa Lucia route if and unless I'm feeling particularly strong and switch to the Heroic...that'll probably be a last-minute decision. It seemed last year like folks could have chosen either when we reached the Templeton area.

Will be there!

Looking forward to this, actually. I’ve been part of the C&V scene for a few years but have never participated in an Eroica event. Have travelled in Northern California to go to different monthly rides and I am hoping to get to my first Pasadena ride in July. It is great meeting other C&V enthusiasts. I run the Camellia City rides in Sacramento and it is always fun when we have people from other communities show up on our rides.

Hoping to meet some of the Bike Forums group, in person, although I wonder how we will identify ourselves?

One year someone had some stickers made up that we proudly displayed. Look for the people with classic bikes , we will be there. Otherwise, just introduce yourself by your name and BF handle , others will usually follow along.

Tramp stamp is acceptable if you also show some crack when in the drops.

My Bike

For the event, it will have the original Normandy Sport hubs with either 25mm Sprinter Gatorskins or Veloflex tubulars and the OE Atom FW. That Zefal will be replaced by an older non-Hp Zefal. Maybe I can find a good deal on decent Ideale 80.

you know it would be a good idea if some one with greater skills than I, would post up something we could print on a label and stick it on our clothing...that way we can have a reason to start up a conversation, basically a sticky label name tag
with a logo,.... anyone got the skills ??

If I remember correctly, somebody did this with "race numbers" onto the front of the frame a few years ago

I bet most of us will recognize each other by our bikes--if there's a round of 'what will you be riding' pics this August, we may have an easy time spotting each other!

I have no GD skills but this can be printed on waterproof sticker paper and then affixed to our pin on numbers. https://www.amazon.com/Printable-Wat...zcF9hdGY&psc=1

Maybe someone has a better idea but it not: Send a stamped self addressed envelope myway, and I'll send you three. One for the pin on "race" number and two for the frame number.

Don't know a dang thing about the organization, but looking at the chosen dates, I bet you five bucks it rains.
A month later would have been better
