cassette rattling
I had a cassette swapped last week, went from 12-23 8 speed (Shimano) to 11-28 8 speed (SRAM). I was out for a ride today and heard a rattling sound coming from the cassette, and in inspecting it it seems as if it's a bit loose. The lockring is definitely tight enough, and it appears to have all the spacers. The one thing I'm reading that could potentially be is a spacer between the 28 and the dork disk, although my old shimano cassette doesn't have one. Any other troubleshooting ideas while I wait to talk to my local repair guy.

Or to put it another way, you need the outer sprocket to overhang the front of the freehub by 1-2mm (no more) so the lockring is pressing on the cassette and not the freehub body. L
Loosen and remove the lockring, check for overhang, and add a spacer behind the cassette if necessary, then tighten to spec.

When that happened to me, the cause was an incorrect sized spacer - a nine-speed spacer was in a eight-speed cassette set.

When that's happened to me, I usually find that the final, smallest cog has rotated so the splines don't match up. The one big spline on the cog is sitting on top of the cassette body, preventing it from being fully tightened.
