knee injury

Let me start off saying I did not injure myself cycling, but I am posting to see if anyone has any opinions and thoughts. I read a post (outdated) about knee troubles so I wanted to give it a try. About 15 months ago I hit the center of my knee against the corner of my nightstand getting into bed in the dark. The pain was unbearable, I couldn't sleep comfortably for a few nights and I couldn't put weight on it after work at home for about a week. It was pretty swollen and I got an xray 2 weeks later which was normal. I saw a knee specialist who said my ligament is strong and to exercise on stationary bike. I did that on and off and I think it helped. So time passes and last month I went through PT for a month (finished PT July 18) and had an MRI which was normal. PT told me I have tendinitis to do the workouts they taught me at home for 3 months which I have been doing for a month so far. Anyway I know my knee is stronger because I don't have a giving out feeling anymore when I walk. I used to wear a band support that went right below your knee but don't since the cracking/popping doesn't happen anymore when walking. I am hopeful I heal in a few months but do wonder. Did I wait too long to deal with this? The sensation now is not painful, it is a weird feeling like something is there and I feel it right below the kneecap. My knee does look a little swollen on the bottom and I can tell the injured knee has a different shape/look to it than my good one. I am 26 year old male. I ice my knee for 15/20 mins everyday. Would a heating pad help? I'm not so sure what else if any I should look into doing. Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them.

Yes ... talk to a Dr. Try to get in to see a sports Dr. You might even try a chiropractor.

We aren't medical professionals and can't diagnose over the internet.

you may have chondromalacia patellae. It is a softening of the back of the knee cap due to an injury (like yours) or the failure of the kneecap to track properly. It can cause swelling and pain. If it is bad enough it can require surgery where they shave the back of the knee cap to smooth it out. It may also require a procedure called a ''lateral release". A good orthopedic surgeon can diagnose and treat the condition. I know from personal experience since I had the condition about thirty years ago and had a shaving and lateral release. you can google some of the key words here and learn about everything about it.

Could you go into detail of why you had the shaving and laterial release? Did it help your condition and areyou pain free/back to normal self? Is the procedure dangerous and would you recommend it?I will look into this myself, thanks for sharing. I noticed today at work (I sit 99% of the time) that when I wear my band support that goes around your leg right below your knee I feel 100% better pretty much. The second I take it off the weird feeling in my knee comes back, like there is an issue with placement of ligaments and such. It has a scrambled feel to it in some sense, but it kinda hard to explain. I am thinking of buying better supports for my feet, could that do the trick and heal me? I wear asics and the stock supports are starting to wear. Thanks again
