Quarq calibration

Quarq calibration
Last night my Quarq was completely off. At times the power was way above perceived effort, other times it was way below, and a couple of half hearted sprint efforts produced personal record power.
Also it showed 0 power on several occassions while I was pedaling and it was still picking up cadence.
I'm using it with a Garmin 500 and I zero'd it a number of times both by back pedaling, and by calibrating on the Garmin. The calibration numbers went from -4000 something to minus 2000 to minus 1000.
Thought I'd give it another try tonight before I sent it back to Quarq, and power seemede much more in line with perceived effort. The offset numbers were also in a tigher range, from -37 at the beginning to 172 at the end.
I have a new battery, checked connections, and the chainring bolts are tight. Any ideas on what's going on?
I've emailed Quarq, and I'm sure they'll respond quickly, just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience.

I did when I first got mine.
Even though it zero'd correctly on a number of occasions, Quarq had me send it back to them.
It has worked fine ever since, no hick-ups at all.

I had a similar experience with inaccurate power and calibration problems that included drifting initial calibration. I sent it back and they repaired it or sent me another one. When I calibrate my Quarq at the start of a session, I check it again at the end. There is not much change. The one I sent back would change by 100 point or more.

Lots of people reporting problems with Quarq and Garmins (myself included). Happening just at the time Garmin launch a power meter of their own. If one were inclined to conspiracy theories.....

Hermes - slight thread jack, do you use your Quarq on the track?
The reason I'm recalibrating mine pretty frequently is because I'm starting to use it on my track bike. ... and all the stuff that entails.

chainline spacing - I haven't ridden it yet, but I had it set on there the other night.

Turned out it was farked. Few months out of warranty. Got a new spider and electronic unit for $500. The crank itself was delaminating, and that was covered under warranty. So everything, except chainrings, new for $500.
