These types of discussions kinda bug me. For all the posturing and pontificating they just seem to be no risk, no effort, intellectual navel gazing laziness because the op really has no intention of doing what they are talking about. Blah blah lofty ideals blah blah. It's the same as squeezy's goings on about the greatness of custom bicycles he will never buy.

Not to misinterpret your post but I'll jump to conclusions and assume that you meant reading skills, seeing as there is no audio on the forum.

Give me someone who talks about a week long supported tour on a cheap bike any day. At least it's based on something they really did or intend to do.
However humble the effort, I can respect the doing far more than the talking about the doing of others.

If you would rather read about a week-long supported tour on a cheap bike, then why not do it? To me they're quite boring, much like your little remarks here.

And this is another perspective ...
Harvest Trail ? Backpacker & Seasonal Worker Guide
https://jobsearch.gov.au/harvest
But you'd have to have the money to get to the first job.
Incidentally, do you also go by the name tandempower?

No bike? Isn't THE point of touring, the bike as mode of transportation? I did a most of a day once without talking to anyone. Does that count? We (most) of us are bike geeks, obsessing over the tiny details of our bikes. Let know how your nothing tour works out. Borrow an envelope and mail it to someone?

I read of a man who walked into the wilderness with nothing and lived for 40 days on what the ravens brought to him. I'm not saying that you can't do that, but I will say that your odds of success will be better if you cut your hair, shave your beard and get a job to start.

I am closing the thread because of all the childish behavior here...
TOO many of you take yourself way too serious...I should issue several folks on here infractions for forum rule violations...but I just do not want to take the time to make all those user notes, send all those PM's explaining...but all the ones out of line here have used up all their slack and will be paid much closer attention to in their posts around the forum...
The ignore feature works, use it.
