...is not what I want to hear from my mechanic when I pick up my car after he's worked on it.
It's been fun and exciting times with cars over the last week. $2k for a new water pump in my Explorer. Wife's C250 was dropped off at the mechanic this morning for a mystery issue. I'm expecting that it won't be cheap and easy. All of this is money I would have rather spent on a MTB.

So it's 24 hours since the ice-induced crash yesterday. I am a little sore on my right forearm and medium sore on my right side chest which I believe took most of the impact. I am hopeful the healing will continue so I can ride tomorrow.
Update on Xmas plans. Initial plans to go to NJ to visit mrs datlas' family had been scratched by us when we found out that several younger relatives who we had been told were "fully vaccinated" really only got ONE of the. J&J shot. That makes us uneasy so we bailed. We did offer to visit my folks in NJ but my mom is extra cautious and said no.
So for Xmas day we might just get Chinese food (carry-out, natch) and go to the movies (Netflix from home).

Life got slightly exciting for the GeneJockey family. The Younger Boy reported last night that his GF has COVID, and said, "Maybe we should get tested?"
So, after discussion, here's how it went: TYB and TYBGF were last together last Thursday. Sunday Night, TYBGF starts feeling poorly. Gets tested, results come back Wednesday as Positive for COVID.
That means basically 3 days between last potential exposure and TYBGF developing symptoms. CDC sez you may be contagious TWO days prior to developing symptoms. Which means he's almost certainly clear.
ALMOST certainly.
As somebody who lives by the 95% confidence interval, I understand that it means 1 out of 20 times, the less likely thing happens. He feels fine, and if he'd been exposed and was going to become symptomatic, he'd be so by tonight at the latest. Again, of course - 95% CI.
And we're all boosted, with TYB, TOB, and I all getting it last Friday.

Testing is an approach/avoidance conflict for me. On the one hand, a negative test would make us all feel so much better. On the other, a testing site is the ONE PLACE you're guaranteed to encounter the infected.

HA! The guy who sold me the Ironman also had a Serotta Ti Legend in my size (thus, not his) for sale, but he wanted $1200 for it. I'm pretty sure he got it, too.

I leave those. By spring they'll be broken down enough to provide nourishment for the ivy. Same for other perennial ground covers.

Though tires are something I can get behind. Tires wear so slowly one doesn't realize what difference new ones make.

I was trying to recall the most I ever spent on a car at one time. Pretty sure it was the $600 I paid for a rebuilt 5 speed trans on my S-10 Blazer. It was cheaper than buying the parts to fix it because the shafts were junk.
I think the second most ever was $400 for tires on the Trailblazer in 2014. They're still on there but might need to be refreshed soon.
Besides being in the business I've generally had great luck with cars.

Agreed. I do enjoy new tires. However, my Explorer eats tires at kind of an alarming rate.

Hey Trsnrtr - I think that you should buy either a direct-plumbed La Speziale Vivaldi II or really ball out and get a La Marzocco Linea Mini, so that I can live vicariously through you. Being at the in-law's, with lots of time to sit on my ass and browse for toys online, has me jonesing for a new machine and close to doing something stupid.
