March 14 (with apologies to Stapfam)

A week from tomorrow is March 14. That's 3-14 in the US. I understand that some other parts of the world say it backward and, consequently, can't celebrate pi day like we do.

Never-the-less, if you're new to 50+, next Thursday provides an excellent opportunity to become a part of the 50+ inner circle simply by going for a bike ride and having a slice of pie. I'm even off work that day so you know what I'll be doing.

Slick. I am off on 3.14 day so I can ride my circular route and stop for pie at that.

To do a proper job, one should time their consumption of said piece of pie to occur at nine minutes and twenty six seconds after three o'clock. This results in you doing the honours on the third day of march at 15,09,26 military time or if written out 3.14.15.9.26, Pi to the seventh place!

I'm basically an analog guy. 2 decimal places is enough for me.

Just mention Pie or anything that sounds like it and I will be there

But any of you lucky enough to get here can get A Pic of their pies for me. Have the Badge but not had their Pie. Bit too far for me to ride in a day.

I'm in! - at least as long as it isn't snowing! I'm getting reeeeeaaaaal tired of snow as I get older. Maybe I should think of snow as the meringue on my pie?

I teach part of a Professional Engineering exam prep class on Thursday evenings in the Pi room (314) of the UCSD extension complex, and I am giving the students Pi day off, because no one is taking the afternoon specialty test in my field.

When I attended Ohio State back in the '70s, I was bunked in an upper-classmen's Engineering dorm - Houck House. Of course, engineers being engineers (and a bit off at that), the room numbers were quite often retouched. My room, 140, had something like 1.40x10^3 above the door...

Another room (Electrical Engineers in there) had the color bands for resistors...

The time for celebration start will obviously be 3-14 @ 1:59 (and 27 seconds) then, right?

Though in all honesty, I just about tried to claw through the monitor screen to get at that tiramisu...

But if we did it on 3-14 we would have to hit you in the Pi-hole!??? And now that they no longer make twinkies what would we use as an excuse?

This thread brought a smile to my face. I hope my work schedule will at least allow the piece of pie. It won't allow for a mid day bike trip for Pi.

And possibly most of the rest of the world who write dates in a logical order We've been in the US 25+ years and I still can't get my head around writing month first, so I usually write, for example 3Mar13, so I get it right. But I like pi day - never heard that before. I'm going to introduce it to our group.

Actually, I hate to be the one to bring this up, but, is it possible that pie is becoming passe'? I'm having increasing difficulty finding a suitable pie restaurant to ride to from my house. All that I'm coming up with are places like Bob Evans, Denny's and Cracker Barrel. And Cracker Barrel only has no sugar added apple pie if you can fathom that.

Stapfam's good at posting photos of delicious-looking pastries that he's consumed at the mid point of various rides even though some of them don't quite match my idea of traditional pie. I can't find that here. I'm beginning to think that, to properly celebrate pi day, I might have to fly to England where they don't even have a 3-14. How ironic is that?

Pie is difficult to find over here with the usual one being supplied as Apple. Not that keen on apple but how about Banoffie 0r Almond. These take some finding but in looking for them I have come across some fantastic Tarts- Cakes- Fruit Crumbles- Tiramisu- Cheesecakes- Bakewell Tarts and by far the best-Bread Pudding. Then the cakes--And luckily I no longer have to find a Bakers for lunch which was normally a Steak and Kidney pie and a Bun of some description. Instead I have to make do with my wifes home made cooking of Gooseberry tarts- Fruit Loaf and Fruit crumbles.

And what I have suffer-Cheese straws-Gooseberry Pie-Macaroons- Rock cakes and grapes from the greenhouse.

No wonder I have stopped losing weight.
