owned-since-new 1990 RB-1. Restofied in 2016.



I bought this '92 RB-2 on Fb Marketplace in March of 2022 for $120 and replaced the decals, touched up the million paint chips and clear-coated it. Wheels, drivetrain, brakes are original.

Here’s my 49cm 1993 Bridgestone XO-1. I recently had the frameset for sale at a local bike show.


Grant Petersen probably didn’t know he was going to make such an influential bike at the time, you know?


I changed the headset; it’s a new Tange Levin threaded headset.


Frame and fork are painted in “construction pumpkin;” all original, except for a few chips and some rust. There’s white primer under the gloss.


This realistically, is the only surface rust on the frameset. Not bad for 30 years old (Can’t believe I’m writing that).


Decals are original, too.


Ishiwata Croston 022E tubing. Not sure what Croston means, maybe some of you may know.


Previous owner used the frameset as a commuter and for bike messaging.

Hi everyone,

I was riding down the street and saw this rusty beauty on sale for about $80. I will modify it with my old parts, including drop bars. But the maximum rider height is 145cm. Any advice on finding a seatpost? I'm in Thailand and don't have calipers to measure the diameter of the existing post.

Pull the seatpost and the diameter should be marked near the bottom. Common size would be 27.2.

Just brought a friend’s MB-6 back to life. It had sustained damage to the fork somehow - fork ends were misaligned and spread to about 110mm (no, it’s not an early boost spacing). Cheater bars, home made alignment tools and a lot of sweat equity and patience got it close enough. #steelisreal

It’s not a beauty, but it’s mostly original (including the miraculously still indexing SunTour 7s XCM) except for these changes:

• I replaced the flat handlebar with VO Left Bank bars for more upright riding.
• Converted the 48-38-28 triple to a 42-28 compact double. (Pairs nicely with the original 13-30 FW.)
• Turned a very worn out Ritchey 46t ring into a chain guard.
• Salvaged an Electra cruiser seat for above mentioned upright positioning.
• New cables and housing of course.

It was a parts-bin build, so I couldn’t get the tires to match, but I was able to squeeze 2.3” in the back. I only had a 1.9” for the front. Good enough for around town or gravel roads.

There's a purple RB2 that just popped up locally, not sure what year it is.

Does anyone know what tire clearance I can expect from the frameset? I used to have an 84 trek 760 that i did a restomod with and kind of miss it. Thinking about doing that with the RB2 frame if the tire clearance is decent!

I seem to recall the RB-1's have an unusually wide clearance to fit 32mm tires so I assume you'll find the same on your RB-2. Just a guess though. Be sure to let us know what you discover.

That changes year-to-year. The later ones are more likely to fit 32's, but not all of them do.

Yesterday I picked up this Bridgestone Diamond but haven't been able to find much on this particular model. I hadn't heard of a Diamond model before.

Perhaps it was not a USA offered model?

My best guess is it's from mid 70's to maybe 1980 due to the lack of braze-ons for bottle cages, TT cable guides, DT cable stops, BB cable guide, chainstay cable stop etc.

Some of the components must have been changed because the stem had a 1988 date and the 26.6 seatpost had a 1999 date.
Also it has a Modolo E2091 41cm handlebar. I need to look up what dates they were made.

The 27" wheels have Araya 36 hole rims and Normandy high flange hubs.

I'm thinking the Sugino Mighty Compe crankset may be original . It has a 46-2 stamped on the inside in addition to the 165 crank arm length.

The derailers are Suntour as are the DT shifters.
The rear is a VX and all I see on the front derailer are the numbers 4532 on the backside.
Oh, I just saw SL stamped on the front of the front derailer
I don't see any numbers on the shifters.

Pedals are Mikashima Unique.

The brakes are Dia Compe 610 center pulls and Dia Compe non aero levers with the suicide attachments.
I must have a dozen sets of levers like them in my parts bins.

Also that headbadge was one I haven't seen before.
Interesting.

It would be much appreciated if anyone can share any info they have on this model or perhaps even a catalog link. I only found more modern catalogs like those on the Sheldon Brown site.

The serial number is F100476 which according to some of the Bridgestone serial number decode info here the F would indicate a manufacture date of June
and the 1 would be the year.

So perhaps it's a 1981 model? Would 1971 be too early for it?

Also what lugs are those? Anyone? They are pretty thick ...not much filing done to them.

The pale yellow paint on it is very rough so I'm trying to decide on a powdercoat or repaint.

Last evening I completed disassemble it after a maiden 10 mile ride.
I liked how it rode.

I thought it was a bit over the top they put these decals on the DT " Guaranteed World Finest Bicycle Precision Mechanism ".

I figured this bike was probably a straight gauge CroMo tube set of some sort and it would be 28 to 30 pounds.

I weighed it several times and it was 25.8 pounds...not a svelte 21 pound road racer but not a tank either.

I measured it as a 59cm frame C-T with 45cm chain stays and a 105cm wheelbase so perhaps a sport touring model?

Oh, I did adjust that saddle before my ride.

I also rode slow and close to home because those aged tires are sketchy to say the least and are so cracked I cannot make out the manufacturer but they hold air and are still inflated this morning.

Looking around on the link you provided I saw this 1972 catalog link which is interesting especially the description of die cast frames.

I think these 1972 models are older than mine.

It's also interesting seeing the riding attire in old bicycle ads. Perhaps it's just posing for pictures attire.

Now where can I get a pair of wide wale corduroy pants in red?

I have posted this bike before, but it's a great bike and deserves to be admired. My long-term 1976 Supercycle Excalibur built for the Canadian Tire Corporation by Bridgestone. It was their most expensive offering.

Paint was so rough on this Bridgestone Diamond I stripped it off and an riding it with bare raw finish for now.

I am ordering some TT cable guides so I can eliminate the zip ties currently on the TT.

Almost done refreshing #StriderBike, my 1994 Bridgestone RB-T. It has always ridden great. Now it’s looking cool too.
In the last 6 months or so we have
-upgraded the cranks, rings and bottom bracket to Shimano 105
-new brake pads
-Blackburn rack
-Brooks Honey Brown Bar tape and twine
-Albastache bars w/ dummy levers
-new brown DiaCompe hoods
-new decals







Still to come: Touch up paint and possibly a front rack.
