Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As someone who detests obligatory "gift"-giving, it's still legal to just spend time with family of birth and choice and eat good food.

As someone who has... "issues" of his own with much of culture and society, I understand. Hope y'all are also happy.

Albany or Wailea, the Atomics spend all quality time with ~1.25 screens per person active. Our generation is the lowest...

We don't do all that much for Christmas anymore. When The Boys were young, we did - tree, presents, decorating the house, big dinner, etc. Nowadays it's minimal presents and a big dinner, and a few decorations. Mom and Dad did big Christmases back when we were growing up, and for many years after when some or all of us would come to visit for the holidays. I sometimes wish I could do that for my kids, but they'd have to LEAVE first!

The finish was perfect on these, couldn’t find a single blemish, they are also scary light weight. Much much much lighter than my last pair.

Havnt ridden them yet, prolly won’t get to until tomorrow morning. Will let you know more when I do.

I went down a rabbit hole today while trying to get my wife’s old Spec. Amira to run right on her Wahoo Kickr. She wanted to ride and I jumped on her setup just to make sure everything worked right and the thing growled, chain jumped, etc. I knew her chain had 5k on it which is normal for her but I swapped in a new Ultegra chain. Same problem. I took the cassette off of the trainer and it looked brand new which made sense because I doubt that it has 500 miles on it; it was new last January. Also checked the derailleur hanger and it was perfect.

I wiped down the cassette and carefully reinstalled it making sure the cogs were properly aligned but the system was still screwed up. I got a new cassette out of my parts stock and everything is fine. I checked my records and sure enough, the Ultegra cassette on the trainer was new last January and my wife did indeed ride less than 500 miles with it. Weird. It shouldn’t be worn out but apparently is.

After I got done a couple hours later, I told her that she was ready to go. She told me that she was going to take a nap and maybe she’d ride tomorrow.

We survived our Xmas trip to NJ. About to go to see a movie, as is the custom with My People. But no Chinese food.

We’re about to sit down to a very traditional chicken parm christmas dinner.

This was the girls choice. It’s the 4 of us, they came at 2 today and we just finished opening presents. After dinner, it’s board games until bedtime.

Also- still no brakes. Hopefully the assembly is in by the end of the week. It’s going to be in the 50s

They warmed up pretty good in the Vancouver/Portland metro so it should be mostly water.

Got in a little shakedown ride on bam's Cervelo. Fit was fine and no untoward noises to speak of! But man, is my fitness shot. When I get back home, I'm just going to have to slog through some serious trainer time to get my cardio back in line.

Kids woke up well before 6am and tromped around loudly enough to wake us up. Lots of Lego under the tree this year, which made them happy. After waking up that early, they both crashed and crashed hard. The girl zonked on the couch, in the middle of playing, and no amount of noise would wake her for a few hours. The boy at least had the presence of mind to drag himself back to bed.

We had leftover beef short ribs, salmon, scallops, NY strip steak, roast duck, salad, asparagus, and squash. And Atomic Sis made pineapple upside-down cake for shortly. Not going hungry.

Fingers crossed you get your brakes in.

We also started making vacation plans and landed (ha ha) on Zurich, due to having a straight shot from DIA. Likely in the July 4th timeframe. Escape the heat and see some gorgeous scenery.

Rapha currently has lightweight (not thermal/insulated) Burgundy Pro Team bib tights on sale for an attractive price, as a part of their winter sale ($150, down from $250). I'm trying to decide if I'd like to have them when the early outdoor season begins or if I'd really, REALLY, like to have them when the early outdoor season begins...
