Band Brake return spring ??

I think it is called a type of Conical spring. Seen it used mostly Schwinn Meridian and other low cost adult trikes that have a rear band brake.

Looking for a source of replacement springs. Several trikes donated in have them missing or rotted.

It is used in this assembly

Anyone have a source for these?

We have some really good hardware stores (in addition to the big box chain DYIs) here, perhaps because of our blue collar city past. When i am looking for some odd part of hardware I go to one and spend a few minutes going through their many drawers. Sometimes I find some other part I have been thinking of for a different project

I have used this type of spring for tandem drum brake cable return before. Andy

Andy,

Unfortunately we don't have a lot of the good [old] hardware stores in this area [area developed in the 70's], there is one on the hammock barrier island I can check the next time I am heading that way.

Do you have an Ace or True Value nearby? They are actual hardware stores and carry products the home improvement centers don't

Thanks, Oh we are bigtime, we do have 3 ACE hardware stores and we have looked in their "trays" for a similar barrel spring without luck, the one they had were to stiff and not the right dimensions

Looks like it might work, however our local Home Depot is a small one and doesn't carry it. I am going to have one of my other volunteers that lives in St Augustine pick one up there at the larger store on his way in Thursday.

Follow up - Thanks everyone.

The Home Depot spring ended up being very similar to the ACE Hardware version but when installed with a new cable, housing and anchor bolt seems to work as expected. We found a few other parts on this trike suffering from exposure over a long period of time (i.e. "rust) but fortunately we had everything else in stock including a replacement drive side rim. Repairs completed and on its way to a disabled person in need at one of our partner organizations.
