Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't mind, but they're kind of heavy.

The rjones28 homestead did not employ a diaper service.

Yeah, I might consider working at an eBike joint if they had one of those Power Lift workstands.

Without one I always thought we should've charged double for fixing rear flats on eBikes.

We charge a premium for ebike flat repair. Mid-drive isn't a big deal. But those hub drive motors are a pain, especially if the manufacturer didn't put a quick connector in the power line.

We made our own lift for ebikes. I was considerably less expensive than the Park Tool version.

Of course, we filled the dump with plastic for a few years.

We had a scissor type lift for Volt batteries. It would only raise to about 3 feet so I had to crawl on the floor under the car when removing or installing the battery.
Volt batteries are about 450 pounds but the Bolt battery is 1000 pounds so when that car came out the old lift wasn't strong enough. They bought a bigger lift which would go up to 6 feet so I could stand up and work on the things.
Of course, then you have a 1000 pound object sitting on a table 6 feet in the air.

It's raining pretty hard right now. It's been so long since I've heard that sound, maybe 8 or 9 years.

We were very bean-sprouty when The Older Boy was born. Cloth diapers with merino wool diaper covers. Diaper service. All that. By the time The Younger Boy came along, we became more convenience-driven. That, and their late uncle had read and told us about a piece that made a cogent argument that in a drought-ridden area like ours, washing cloth diapers was worse for the environment than using disposables. I don't know if it was true, but it was a good enough excuse.

Mrs. GeneJockey and I used to have an expanded number code for those. 1 and 2 are obvious. 3 was both. 4 was if it got the diaper cover as well. 5 if it got the pants, too. She once called me from Costco, to tell me TOB had done a 10.

looks like the Emonda is costing me some diamond ear rings. Making a family trip to the jewelry store. What could go wrong.

Yeah I think some of his books have been censored, I know they may contain stereotypes that were common 50+ years ago and now are possibly racist, but we should judge people in the context of their time.

Maybe it just seems heavier because I'm in the little add-on room with no crawl space, just the roof.

My office (where I'm sitting now) is like that. It gets pretty loud when the rains hit hard. Just sprinkles so far today, though.

Oh yeah!

We gave our youngest his last allowance installment on January 1. He starts work tomorrow. Life starts really soon for him.

Between allowance, car expenses, medical and insurance costs, and everything else we supplemented while he was in grad school, we will see a cost savings of about $2k/month starting in two weeks!
