Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I seem to have accidentally made a poo in Strava art today. I guess I won't be riding that route again.

It's not just Pemex, sticky throttle bodies happen here, too. That was eliminated with electronic throttle control, starting in about 2001 for GM.

With only one exception (afaik) GM had no carburetors after 1986. Don't know about Honda.

Can one like the way a tool looks? Sure. Can one develop a connection with the way the tool performs, responds to the user's efforts? Yes.

But the passion doesn't come from aesthetics. Take the Stradivarius away from the virtuoso and she'll still want to practice.

Imagine going to a running forum and reading posts about a shoe speaking to you, making you want to run.

Silly.
Nope. You still don’t get it. Oh, well. I can’t make you feel things you can’t feel.

It's gotta be more rewarding if you love your gear.

That reminds me of one thing I miss about Portland, plenty of cute girls there that like steel bikes too.

I was a Brooks person for a really long time. I can’t remember the shoe (either pure cadence or pure flow- whichever had the 4mm drop) was discontinued in like 2019 and I’ve been searching since.

NB road minimus are a little too minimus. I have a pair of On Cloudflow now which the specialty running store “fit” me for, but I’m always searching for something with a different feel.

it took me 5 years post hip surgery to be able to run pain free so I should probably revisit some of those other shoes again

I wish New Balance worked for me - never has. Just doesn’t fit my foot correctly. It’s a shame because they’re a Boston company and my wife coaches a running camp in the summer that’s sponsored by them, so she gets a free pair of shoes each year (and she doesn’t mesh well with their shoes either).

I go all the way back to the original Kinvaras in like 2010, when they were mostly in red or pink. Very nice speed shoe if you can handle the lesser padding and 4mm drop. The old ones were nicer; the new ones have a plastic heel cup that tends to blister my acchiles if I do much mileage without cutting it vertically.

I ran in *I think* 890s for a while. I liked them a lot- they were light and fast.

Their building in the side of the Pike is awesome

Boo and hiss. Separately from my partisan feelings, NBs never worked for me either and were so poorly thought of that most of my running teammates all back to high school hated them, as well as my heathen pro-Boston physical therapist cousin, who worked with the other UT XC team and always panned NB.

I was going to say I'd use them for walking if they still had some made in the US, but then I went and looked and apparently they do still, or again. Time to order...

Yes, I have other favorite Queen songs. Radio Gaga, lyric-wise, resonates with me, having grown up with radio as king.

By the time I was done getting my blood drawn I was no longer craving coffee. Is it that easy to quit? I went ahead and drank what I'd brought with me though.
