Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I used to spot blowers (tell them which areas to blow) in the late 70s and it may be wind direction or it could be a storage problem. After a bad storm with a lot of drifting, one side may become burdened with too much snow and the plows have trouble having some where to put the snow. If there’s room on the other side, send it there.

Snow blowing is very slow and is rarely the first line of removal. It’s usually done after the storm passes and is clean up for places the plows can’t clear the road completely. Same with wing plowing to move over-storage back so there will be room to put snow the the next snowfall.

Our plow drivers are master wingmen.

I rode the same ride I always do but today it was 80% tailwind. I came home refreshed, rather than tired.

Years ago, when we first realized that The Older Boy wasn't quite like everyone else (He's got ASD, the syndrome we used to call "Aspergers"), one of the docs asked him if he heard voices. He said, "Sometimes, when I'm outside thinking", which of course made us almost gasp.

"What do they say?" the doctor asked.

"Things like, 'Everybody line up on the blue line'"

He was hearing the PA system at the middle school close by.

My PR on one segment of the ride I do all the time was on a day when, instead of the usual 5-15 mph NW winds, they were out of the SE at the same speed. That was a fun ride home!
