Time for Retirement

This stray tomcat wondered up last summer now he is fully rehabilitated now Iím trying to convince him to retire. He is an old man cat I estimate at least 10. Still fighting getting beat up and he has just healed up. Ghost has an excellent gig right now. Lounge all day and have a human feed you an all you can eat buffet. Retire enjoy the few years you have left cat. I think he finally figured out that the outside girl cat has no plumbing .

Maybe put him out to stud?
That’d be the kind of retirement I’d want for myself, anyway...

The perfect life for a cat is to be living with some old lady who lets you out in the morning after breakfast and back in again at night for dinner.

You ever lived with a cat that started as an outdoor cat and you decided should stay inside ?. Not pretty or fun.

Outside only the only life the cat knows. At this point inside would be a disaster.

Just gave one breakfast a few minutes ago. I have a back deck that he goes out on. Heís to fat to get over the wall/fence. Heís only gotten out of the front door once in 3 years. When he did, he had a look on his face that said ďHmmm. Didnít really think this through. What do I do now?Ē

He's retired from full-time 'mouser' duties and retired to butterfly chasing in the springtime?

You just can't go wrong with cat lovers. Here's one of my boys, dumped as kitten and lost his eye to infection. He doesn't ever remember the bad old days.

All my cats were feral kittens, but I'd doubt they remember back to those early days of running around outside. Only one cat was an outside cat and that's because we were his 3rd family and 4th house. He started as an outdoors cat and we were not going to try to change that. He died of stomach cancer not a car wheel, but we always worried.

Ah yes, I wish I had Hondo for family, Retirement, where you go from 40 hour work weeks, lunch and coffee breaks, a regular paycheck, and year end bonuses......to being on call 24/7 with family and friends, random/occasional lunches and breaks, paying for the working experience, and finding aching muscles that had long forgotten.

Your cat has a twin brother. They have been on the lam together. His twin got rescued off the highway.

Looks like he should retire. He's got the nose of an old boxer. I'm sure he'll settle down a little just from getting some care. He looks pretty happy.

He is starting to chill out and is not so aggressive around the food bowl. I feed the outside cats some distance apart to prevent fighting. I understand why he is aggressive toward food since he was in bad shape when he arrived. Figuring out now that the food supply is constant so he is much calmer.

All cats are wanted in this area as barn cats. The farmers take in feral cats to keep the mice population to a minimum. I think this cat was the king of his barn until he got pushed out be a new king. There is free spay and neuter programs in the area so people take them there. He will keep his nuts because he is old and probably wouldn’t react well being carted lol. He is tame so wherever he came from he had human contact.

On my childhood farm, the neighbors had hundreds of cats. Every once in a while one would find its way to our house and I'd try to convince my mom to adopt them and she'd say they can stay in the barn (we didn't have any animals). They'd usually turn up dead a few days later.

They froze to death because my mom wouldn't let me bring them in the house. That's my memory... Mom's is differnt.

Alternate theory - they were moribund already when they got ousted from the neighbor's viscous farm cat regime.
