FS: 85 Nishiki Cresta 56cm
I had this built up as more of a rando style bike with road gearing and a front rack and bag. This frame was a light touring model so it rides really well when unloaded. Most heavy touring frames from this period were really stiff until they were loaded. The wheels are 27" which I had to build custom for the stock brakes to work well. Other cantis would have made 700's work but where is the fun in that. There are a couple of scrapes on the brake levers and a small one on the fender strut. Otherwise the paint is in really good but rideable condition. I'd like $650 plus what ever shipping costs.
Some additional photos https://photos.app.goo.gl/8PDDaqsHhMA8cJG5A
Here is the build list.
56 cm Nishiki Cresta ( Kuwahara built Tange 2)
8 speed indexed Shimano bar-cons
105 rd and fd
12-25 (I think) 8 speed cassette
Grand Comp brake levers
Dia-compe brakes
Stronglight cranks 130 bcd road chainrings
Hubs are tricolor 600's (36 spoke)
Rims are Sun CR18 (27" 36 spoke)
Panaracer Paselas 27 x 1 1/4
Seatpost is unmarked but probably a uno
Brooks B17
Headset is Tange Falcon
Stem is Nitto
Bars are unmarked but measure about 42cm center to center and have a classic drop
Cloth bar tape with hemp string finishing
Velo-Orange fluted fenders

Bump for price reduction. Please don't make me go to Ebay with this.

Are you sure it's an '85? 1984 was the last year I thought anybody made bikes with that aero shifter mount on the downtube. Virtually all bikes I've seen with them were '83-'84.
I do like that particular cable stop mount for the bar end shifters. Never saw one of those before.

Thanks Lazyass, you were correct. It is an 84. The SN is KD 16952. I've had this from for about 15 years and got it stuck in my head that it was an 85. Honestly, I'd keep this because it rides so well but I've started framebulding and I've built several frames that are very similar.
Here is a snip from T-mar's post
Kawamura manufactured frames (1972-1987*)
Serialnumber format XYZZZZZ where:
X is a letter indicating the market using the following codes:
A= Australia
C = Canada (pre-1987*)
E = Europe
K = USA (pre 1985) + non-ferrous frames 1986-1988*)
W = USA (1985-1987*)
Y is a letter indicating the last digit of the manufacturing calendar year, where A =1, B = 2, C = 3… J = 0. Exception is letter S, used on all frames prior to 1975.
ZZZZZ is a five or six digit number, apparently representing a sequential frame manufac turing number for the year (or era in the case of pre 1975 frames)
Example 1: KA24587 is the 24,787th frame produced in 1981 for the US market.
Example 2: CG231117 is the 23,117th frame produced in 1977 for the Canadian market.
Example 3: WE54612 is the 54,612th frame produced in 1985 for the US market.
* Serialnumber format may extend beyond the stated end date but there are no reported examples, to date.

Good looking bike!
Pretty much how I've finished off my '84 23"(58cm) Univega Grand Tourismo. Same choice of tires, same VO fluted fenders, etc.
Fair price as well
Good luck with the sale!

No pics of the completed bike - just the 'before' pic and a pile of parts... I had been looking for the dark brown cable housing but couldn't find it. Lots of 'peanutbutter brown'.
I built it up with the browns, but was never happy with the color, so I changed to red for the bar tape and cable housing.
One of these days I'll have to get a 'current' pic of both the Gran Tourismo and the '84 Viva Sport that I had built/upgraded with 1st gen Cyclone parts to '84 Miyata 710 specs... And then I got a real '86 Miyata 710 so the Viva Sport just sits...

One last bump before I put some upright bars on this and have a fancy coffee shop bike.
