Trek Domane fit question
I’ve searched and can’t find the answer to my question but first some background. I’ve been in an entry level Giant Defy Aluxx in an XL for 4 years and for about 4K miles. I was at my LBS and asked what would be the next bike for me and they showed me the Domane SL 5 and I fell in love. I bought one and it’s being built as we speak. They ordered a 60cm for me. I’m a little concerned I need to go bigger. I am 6’4” and weigh 190, inseam is 34”. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts!

I know stock is short in a lot of places so you probably didn’t have the opportunity to test ride. But for reference I’m 5’10” with a 32” inseam. I ride a 56cm Domane and feel the fit is good.
FWIW, mine is an ALR so I don’t know what the differences may be in geometry so it may be an apples and oranges comparison.

Assuming your 34” inseam is your bicycle inseam and not your pants size, size 60 sounds right to me. If you go to a 62, you only get an extra 3 mm of reach, but an extra 24mm of stack which will likely make the bike too tall for you. You may need to swap out the tall seat mast for a short seat mask with the size 60 anyway.
With the size 60 you may need to swap out the stem for something longer, but with only an extra 3 mm of reach you'd probably need to do that with a 62 too.

Thanks Kabuto 34 is my pants inseam. Forgive my ignorance but how is that different from a bike inseam?

60 cm might be the max size frame they make that in. And probably it'll be fine for you. My inseam is a little more the 34.5" and I ride a 56 cm Tarmac and have plenty of room between knees and bars. Might could have gotten a 54 cm.
At most with your long torso, you might just need to change the stem length. But that depends partly on how low or upright you want to be.
Maybe the shop has a 60 cm frame in a similar model they can let your ride to address you doubts.

Kabuto thanks for the link…very helpful! I’m new to this forum and so far everyone is kind and helpful! I would love to hear what you think about your Domane. It looks like we have the same one. I’m not allowed to send DMs yet so feel free to send me one, if you’d like.

I test road a Madone (60cm), Checkpoint (56cm) and Domane (56cm) today. I'm 6'-1" with a 34" inseam. Coming off an '07 Madone 5.0 (60cm) the Domane with a medium post thing maxed out fit pretty well. The head stack needed to be higher since with age I'm not as flexible. For you with the 60cm I bet it would fit well. May need a longer than stock stem. Oh the Madone 5.0 broke a rear dropout. Trek could have fixed it but their inspection found a crack in the top tube under the paint. I was planning on a Checkpoint in the future but plans changed. Oh and above is correct the selection is not great.

I'm 6'2 with 36"8 inseam and just chose a 60cm Domane AL2 rather than a 62cm after many test rides (I bought both bikes). The trek sizing calculator https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/s...=122747&step=1 is off so rather don't rely on it to make a choice .

Rather than going by the manufacturer's frame size, I recommend going by top tube length. You can use a bike size calculator here: https://www.competitivecyclist.com/S...ulatorBike.jsp
with someone to help you take the measurements. Saddles go up an down a lot, but there's a relatively narrow range of stems which feel good, and everyone's proportions are different. You can't really go by height or inseam.

How’s the new Domane. Mines great but those 32mm tires are huge.

I'm 6'4" on a 62 Domane. I also ride a 61 Specialized. A 60 Domane would probably have worked for me as well. I think you'll be fine.

I'm 5'11" 180lbs and 33" inseam. On a 56cm Domane SL6. Seems fine. Bike fit is happening in 2 weeks so I will know more then.

How did Domane 56 work out
I am same height and inseam as you and looking at getting a 56 Domane SL6. TRek site says to get a 58. Did this56 size work out for you?

Granted, reach is a more precise way of measuring a frame, but for most of us the difference between 72.5 and 73.5 degrees at the saddle is about 1.15 cm. If your setback preference is fairly neutral, the difference can be made up at the seatpost clamp.

Or you can just check the geo chart and correct for it.
