Muchas gracias Doc, although I hope that didn’t come off as a self invite.

I look forward to going and if all the stars line up and this nasty virus situation stays under control it will happen. I wanted to go up for the non Eroica event that happened but a few of my stars fell out of line and I couldn’t go. It is a great event and I would like to see it continue. I have never regretted attending, that is for sure! I think the Cambria venue just needs some tweaking , or maybe not just so long as it happens. I have been riding with a few of my neighbors and telling them about our fun, they had heard about it but didn’t know about the Nova ride on Saturday, they aren’t into the C&V stuff like me. I think we certainly could use the support of ALL cyclists to make this work financially. If the short route is the same as 2019 , a pre-ride is definitely in order.

I keep thinking that I'm done with Eroica California, then I see lots of people I haven't seen in awhile saying they're going. It's like the swallows returning to Capistrano. Leaving Ragged Point with the Touroica gang and seeing @bikingshearer, @mech986 and other BFer's and being "escorted" back to Cambria was one of the highlights of that trip.

If seeing me on one of your bike trips is a highlight of the trip, you're not doing it right.

Yeah, definitely short on Sunday... even though the lighthouse route is literally just an out/back flat ride. But it's pretty.

@Andy_K figured out a way to break Eroica, just didn't implement it. Say you want to get something a bit closer to heroic mileage in, but want to avoid the steep gravel climbs. Leave with the earliest riders headed towards Cayucas. Stop and grab a breakfast burrito or whatever it is they have at the pier checkpoint. Turn around and there's a good chance you can make the start of the short route up to the lighthouse and back.

Some might get their panties in a bunch arguing "but, but, but, that's not part of the ride!" If you felt bad enough about it, just don't grab the breakfast burrito. It's not a closed course, no one can stop you from riding Hwy 1 as a warm up to your actual Eroica ride. Everyone pays the same fee regardless of what route you take. Last two times I rode Eroica Cali there was no sign-up for the route you were planning on doing, it was more like a poll question, probably so they could plan for the rest stops.

Yeah, the lighthouse ride is nice, but it really doesn't have the vibe of the other routes. Some people might think it's a better vibe -- more like a bunch of people out for an enjoyable ride than a gruesome day of suffering broken up by stops for wine and snacks.

I've kind of convinced myself that the Santa Lucia route isn't too bad. I think I'm going to try that if I can still find housing by the time I decide to commit to it.

Now I'm thinking of bringing a one man tent for Cambria. Might be safer...

I will be riding the Faggin, and my brother will be riding the SOMEC that I have him for X-mas this year. I just gave him the frameset, assembly is on his end.

ETA- A frameset is one thing, components are another! I keep my stash

Centurion Eroica

Most fun would be these OG wheels with 26mm Gravel King Slicks but the trusty Campy GP4s with Gatorskins may get the nod.

Registration full??

Given the delays and everyone's registrations carrying over from previous years, it seems that the ride is full. When I try to register it asks for a coupon code. I heard there was an exchange for transferring registrations from one person to another. I cannot find any reference or evidence of an exchange. Does anyone here have any advice on getting registered for the '22 event?

Given that we are in yet another Covid surge, it seems highly likely to me that the ride will be cancelled yet again. Am I just being paranoid here?

we can only hope that this most recent variant is not as deadly and that most of us older folks that have been vexed , even boosters, will be spared from serious illness. I too have concerns but at this point have hopes of a successful event. My wife and I were in Virginia just before Thanksgiving and no one checked our vaccination records when we were at the airport but had strict mask mandates. We had just had our booster shots and after we got back, one of her cousins called to tell us she tested positive for COVID and no one was wearing a mask at the reunion. My wife was to have a biopsy procedure so she got tested at the hospital before going in to the surgical room and she was negative. I believe it was the vaccine/booster that kept us from getting it. Just my experience and no guarantee. Let’s put out some positive vibes and hope this does not kill the event. I hope your shoulder is healing well and back on the bike soon. We are getting quite a bit of rain down here in SoCal which , if continues, will make a beautiful spring.

Try again. I just went through the motions to register for the concourse(currently registered for both Nova and Classica) and all went smoothly.

@Classtime I am trying to register for the Classic. In that box, there is a box to enter a coupon code before you can register.

Hard to predict but I don’t think the current surge has too much bearing on what things will be like in late April. January is gonna suck, we’ll get through that and things should ease up. For how long, who knows. I think odds are just as good that situation will be similar to if not better than say, late summer. Of course another variant may develop and change things entirely. I really, really hope this thing genetically drifts back to the cold virus from whence it came.

If the Covid is still or again hitting the fan in March then yeah, we need to have the conversation.

This is one of the three Eroica events that I have on my schedule for 2022. The other 2 are Eroica Britannia and L’Eroica Gaiole. For each I will ride the long route.

I will likely ride my Merckx Corsa Extra in each event, although I may ride my Masi for CA if the weather is dry leading up to the event.

I’m not as concerned about COVID cancelling this event. The organizers did a great job of mitigating the risk for L’Eroica 2021 with requiring all participants to have a Euro Green Pass or 48 hr negative test to pick up their ride number and packets. They also required the green pass or 48 hr test to get into some of the event spaces. Lastly, they separated all of the longer riders (209KM and 135KM) to start on Saturday and the shorter riders to Sunday. This helped the congestion at the start and finish lines. I felt safe while attending the event and I would expect that their learning with L’Eroica last year, they will take similar measures in order to run the event in CA.

I’m with Hugh. It’s like riding up to an intersection in the distance and seeing red lights, by the time you get there they’ll be green. The opposite is also true.

On the other hand, maybe we just repeat Touroica. Weather has to be better than TdMIL.

Yes! Gugie is right . The event , after all, is the bikes and the people. The rest, the number placards, posters, etc. are cool , but it is the ride and attendees that does it for me . Either way, I do feel something special WILL happen in Cambria come April….. Yes?
