Big feet small frame-Ulock where?
Hi all,
Just picked up 2 Trek 7.3's about a week ago and I have been having a difficult time placing my lock. Originally I had it on the seatpost but I keep bumping it one way or another and its not fun stopping quickly in a busy intersection when I kick it into the street. The way the frame is designed I cannot mount the bracket many places (large oval tubes). Without a bookbag where do you mount yours?

Strap mine down around the rear rack.
There are alternates: Twofish Lockblocks U-lock Mount or The Cycle Block will move the u-lock to the handlebar and/or stem. Twofish also makes The MegaBlock that goes around fat tubes, so you can hang your u-lock securely just about anywhere.

There are some good ideas here. Another option is to thread the shackle of your lock through the seat rails (where a seat bag would normally attach).

Seriously, in my experience all of the mounting brackets that come with locks are cheap plastic that won't stand up to daily commuter use. Not all of my bikes have racks, and I don't want to shell out getting mounting blocks for all of them (although I do endorse TwoFish LockBlocks as flashlight holders). The thing I can count most on is wearing pants with belt loops. I haven't ripped any yet, as long as you slip your lock through two loops the load is pretty well distributed.

+1 to a bungee cargo net and a rear rack.
Used to use the plastic thing that came with the lock, it didn't even last a season of commuting (more like a month of potholes/curbs) did it in, while the lock is into it's 14th year and on its second bike.
