Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I'm a fine arts major so I love painting and drawing. I also play a little big of guitar, but I only taught myself how to play so I really don't know any theory.

nice!

hamish: thank you i appreciate that. I've been trying since I moved to vermont from mass, periods of success with some brief spectacular failures... that's the way it goes sometimes.

when you have to set aside half an hour to shave, and you have more than $300 invested in your shave kit... it's officially a hobby.

Thanks. It's an Ibanez 1910 from the late 60's. I actually don't have that one anymore. It sounded cool but it had some feedback issues and wouldn't stay in tune. I bought it for $150, traded it for an Ibanez RGT42DXFM, then traded that Ibanez for a Gibson Flying V

Oh; but I'm glad that your trading of it turned out quite well.

Here's my bass. Apparently I never took good pics of her (she's colored in translucent teal), but here she is:

EBMM Stingray 5, I think from around 2003. I used to have a GK 115 and a Boss GT-6B, but I just sold those off.

your guitar is missing a string, and those strings look a little big, how are you supposed to play bar chords on that?!

Skiing/snowboarding: I have two snowboards but living in flat midwest I haven't been out in a few years. I basically grew up on downhill skis but after I tried snowboarding in the late 90s I never went back. I have gone cross country skiing and it's pretty fun too. I feel like you have to find something active to do in the winter otherwise it just drags on you. I also ride my bike throughout the winter so that helps too.
The Interwebs: I'm an online community manager (social media) for my job but I also spend a LOT of time online outside of work. Twitter, IRC, etc.
Knitting and Other Crafty Endeavors, and I include cooking in that category. Want to try sewing and even have a sewing machine but don't know how to use it yet.
Coding: I'm teaching myself python. I've never tried programming before, save for an ill-fated decision to take C++ in college many years ago.
Beer: I'm a beer snob. I love beer.
Karaoke: I can't sing all that well (although I'm not busting eardrums either), but get a few beers in me and just try to stop me.
D&D: I don't play a lot in the summer because I'd rather be outside, but I like getting together with friends over some snacks and beers and pretending I'm a druid and kicking ass.
Pets: I have a retired racing greyhound named Blink Dog and two cats, Kitty and Madeleine Mary.

Basically I'm just a hipster, albeit an aging one. I have no problem with that.
I once told a guy that told me "you're such a special person" (by the way, dudes, this is the LAMEST LINE EVAR) that no I wasn't, I was just a hipster.
He said "But hipsters don't knit"
Me: "Uh, yes they do"
Him: "Ok well hipsters don't ride bikes"
Me: "..."

I'm still not really sure what this guy thought hipsters were, exactly.

I build plastic models and enjoy fountain pens.

Also play a lot of video games and run a small community centered around Lego and Minecraft. I dabble in both...

besides riding bikes? i enjoy wrenching on/ building bikes almost as much as riding them...
other than that, gym, spin class, soccer, DJing (all sorts of electronic dance music), and the GF is teaching me to brew beer and bake cupcakes (working on some mint cookies and cream ones...ground up in both the cake and frosting)

my hobbies are either exercise/health related or detrimental to health lol (well i guess beer is good for mental health)

I really love to cook and read. And recently I have gotten into model railroading, which is almost as expensive as my bike part buying habit.
