Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? If I am not mistaken...wouldn't that be a fixed multi-speed hub? how else would it continue to move the chain, ensuring you could shift while in motion... or am I missing something?

I think the idea is that the chain will move with the rear cassette and chainrings while the cranks don't. Lulz.

well as long as you don't mount your tires with labels misaligned from the valve and or facing the non-drive side, what ever floats you boat.

It would be a fixed freewheel, not hub. Probably just screws on, since it doesn't need to resist much backward torque.

My parents have bikes with that freewheel system, both the chainrings and the rear cluster freewheel, however, the rear is designed to be far stiffer in its action.

But I digress, in response to the OP, I would try to think up something as original as possible to do with the unused brake lever i.e., actuate a squirt gun, pull up the shades in your apartment, untie your shoe, flop in the wind like a fish in a noose... scratch that, that's inhumane.

Of course, if you aren't the creative type you can always just fall back on one of the incredible suggestions already given. Good luck!

Cheers,
lverhagen

The freewheel BB was a great help in me building a tall tandem. It made the drive train so much simpler. Too bad it didnt help making it stiff enough to ride the thing.

remember when you started riding your fixay and were all 'bros it's the simplicity of the fixed gear drivetrain'....?

well adding crap for the lever to do is dumb. remove the blade and leave the hood if you are only running a single brake.

you don't need a dummy with a set-up like this from jtek engineering...
can run 2 levers onto 1 brake & it has a cut-out that keeps you from engaging both levers at the same time

And when you have a solution to a problem that does not exist, the next logical step is to create a problem that is conveniently solved by the aforementioned solution.
???

Wonder if a $6 detangler would work...

Hook it up to a personal massager embedded in your seat, nothing better than a nicely massaged taint mid-ride

I think someone needs to invent a bar+stem combo that houses a Co2 canister hooked up to an airhorn (or perhaps the sound of air rushing out the bars sans plugs might be worthwhile).
