Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I swapped out the spd road pedals for Superbe's with clips and replaced the Selle Italia with some vintage leather and the weight gain was well worth it.

She (a 1973 Raleigh Gran Sport) is now just a speck over 22 pounds and flies on those 630:20 tyres... I just scored some beautiful Fiamme tubular wheels on Shimano 600 hubs so will probably mount those up and use them when I go out racing with the kids.

I so need a better camera...

I just started biking recently. I don't have much money and I wanted to start off with something small so this is what I picked up. Did a few upgrades. Later I'll invest more money into a Fuji.

Didn't like the decal, seat, handlebar tape so I changed that.

And last.

I plan to repaint my bike next weekend. I'll post up the outcome.

Put it together just the other day. I upgraded from the Tarmac Expert.... my god. This bike is even more amazing than the expert! So far I only have about 35 miles on it but looking forward to putting on many more.

Edit: And since that picture was taken, YES my magnet is now opposite of the valve. I actually noticed it by looking at this picture

Well of course you are nitpicking and rude about it besides.

Try instead: "the saddle could be lighter" or "how about xyz saddles, etc...."

I picked the bike up on thursday, so the saddle, as I noted is on for now. Have 4 saddles on order, 3 Terrys and trying the Selle SMP Strike Plus but that thing seems heavy.

I'd really hate to disagree, but the saddle has a reputation with giving sore sit-bones on longer rides. It's a great saddle, but a LOT of people complain about that issue.

Whenever someone asks for saddle advice, I tell them to try the classics; Selle San Marco Concor, Regal, Rolls, Fizik Arione, and Selle Italia Flite. Stay away from gel when you're on the search, because you're trying to find a shape that's comfortable, not a saddle that's comfortable. The actual saddle can hide discomfort on shorter rides with stuff like gel and cutouts and such.

And a note on the Arione, as far as I know, it's the only mass-produced saddle that was made to fit one riders ass. Was it Simoni's ass that it was made for? I remember it was at the Giro d'Italia in.... 2003?

Just got my first 'real' bike a couple weeks ago. A Cannondale CAAD9 R6. Got it for $750 at a LBS. Really enjoy it so far. Went on my longest ride yet yesterday, 50 miles at 16mph

What year frame is this? I thought they only made the CAAD8 in 2007, but I didn't notice that color anywhere in their archive for the 2007. It looks amazing either way, and I sure wouldn't mind finding one.

Last pics before I change it over to new wheels. I'm hoping the next set will be lighter for the mountains.
I should have the new ones by the coming weekend. Fingers crossed. Nothing special, just open pros and 105 hubs but never the less, I'm excited.

It's Wall-E man! Disney movie that came out during the summer. I don't think that's actually rusted metal, but it looks pretty damn cool if you ask me.

+1 That's pretty awesome. Pixar knocked out another hit with that movie.
