Congrats!
Just remember that it's not that much faster than the 4's, just more awesome. Many lose confidence when they cat up but if you don't do that, you'll have so much more fun.

+1 Thank you! I'm confident right now! Having had my best races on mixed 3/4 races, I am facing it exactly as you describe - more awesome!!!

The 3's are way sketchier than the 4's... I chalk it up to a blend of a bit more speed and a lot more (over)confidence.
^ my opinion, on special this week, just $0.02.

I don't even know what a cat 3 race is any more around here. Everything is 3/4. The overconfident 4s in that group make me a bit nervous. I can't complain though -- I can't apparently even keep up with a 3/4 crit this season.

Maybe so, but for a damn good reason that has nothing to do with your desire. With all of the needed rest you got this year, you will be leaving dead bodies in your wake next year. Mark my words.

First race as a 3 was a success!
Pretty laid back actually. I loved how relaxed and chatty things got at times.
I sucked so much wheel that my avg HR was only 150.
Had a LOT in the tank at the end. Long 3 mile straight away to the finish, someone warmed me it would gradually get faster so I was saving for that, but that's not what happened. Everyone held back until 500m to go. I was boxed in, squeezed in between a couple guys, and ran out of race (meaning I should have started sprinting all out earlier), but locked in a 6th place finish!

Yeah, I've started getting up at 5am to hit the trainer for 45 minutes of low tempo before my normal daily riding (commuting and/or lunch rides). I'm going to turn this ship around.
