VeloBase down - again (and now it's back)
edit: site is back up and running!
I'd requested the ssl cert be updated weeks ago, apparently it never did update. Today I try to manually update it, and now the entire site is down with some server error that is outside of my control. I'm trying to get through to support, but still on hold. Unfortunately there are not many hosting options out there for the technology stack that VeloBase runs on, or at least ones that are not hundreds of dollars a month or more. I'll be back as soon as I can make it happen.

Getting treacherous out there.
an acquaintance had a Wordpress “blog?”
running for a number of years, about a month ago Wordpress requested I register to read it.
weird.
I emailed the author, he did not respond directly but the URL is now “parked”.
something transpired. Not sure other than it is no longer up.

Seems there's a 'known problem' that has taken the server down that VeloBase is hosted on. All I can do now is wait and see when it comes back up and try to (finally) get the SSL cert properly updated then. I had started a significant rebuild of VeloBase software at the beginning of the year, but unfortunately I haven't been able to devote much time to it in recent months as work and life commitments have kept me busy (not to being ill with covid and then bronchitis back in the spring) . The bigger problem is the hosting options for the site. As some may recall a while back I'd tried to switch to a new hosting company which ended in total chaos after they continued to shut the site down for 'too much memory usage' - which I never could even detect or replicate myself, or even get an answer on what 'too much' was. So I had to switch back to what I had been using, which while when problems do come up like this it's frustrating, at least the site was stable and operational for the most part.

sorry folks
Don't make us brandish the Magnum PI. It could lodge in the skin and cause a very bad infection.

Pleasantly (and genuinely) surprised to find everything up and running this morning. SSL certificate installed and everything.

Happy to see Velobase is alive this morning! 'Tried using Velobase yesterday afternoon....looking for info on a new-to-me Sun Mistral rim....and got error messages to the effect that the site was not secure or something to that effect.

I'm glad to see it back up, then also made a small donation, via the link at the bottom of the site. Thanks for your hard work.

I've also had a small monthly donation going for some time now. I encourage anyone who likes the page to give some tiny amount you'll never miss, but make it recurring.

I'm glad the site is back up. I wasn't sure what was happening with the clock-error message. I've been getting that message for years when I try to go to bikepedia.
