Shimano crankset FC-RS200 chainring measurements

Understand that for Shimano cranksets, the usual Chainring spacing is 5mm and 8-speed chainrings are 2.38mm thick. But folowing figure shows that it can vary across cranksets.

Before I buy crankset FC-RS200, have to figure out the exact positions of and spacing between chainrings.
Need x1 and x2 as shown in following figure.

  • Is your bike a 8 speed bike?
  • Is it a road bike?
  • Will your bikes bb be compatible with the FC-RS200?
If you answered yes to those questions, then probably it might work. However it is square taper and those can get different chain lines when mixed and matched with different brands of BB. But if you purchased the UN-300 that is recommended for it, then you will probably be at the correct chain line for a road bike with 8 speeds.

Or are you also wanting to put different rings on it?

anga- I think your claim of rings usually being on a 5mm center-center dimension is off. Both in my experience and the imaged chart's specs the typical c-c is more like 8mm. Additionally at one time in the 1990s Shimano had their MtB cranks using a slightly wider c-c then their road stuff. Andy

Thank you. Exactly what I needed. Chainring spacing works out.
Ordered the crankset, probably the last available online in India.

5mm spacing is from Sheldon Brown's article on chainline.

Both are possibilities and the chainline covers most options.
