The bike is in great condition and I feel like a USC Alumni would bo crazy over it.
Any help on value is greatly appreciated. I do want to sell it.
Tried to post pics but I need to post ten posts to add a pic (thats stupid) anyhow text me below for pics the bike is clean and really *****en!

You are correct - that serial # was assigned to a 400 on 12-28-84.
If it is proper working order and very good condition with original or mostly original parts, that bike would sell for around $150 - 200 in my area (N.E. U.S.)
It's a nice sport/tour frame that can be ridden as originally spec'd or is suitable for component modification/upgrade.

Welcome to Bike Forums. After finding your post I thought I’d take a minute to explain to you why you can’t post a picture yet. We are by far the largest bicycle themed forum in the world. And therefore we are a ripe target for spammers to attempt to advertise their wares. In an effort to reduce the amount of spam that we have to deal with we have instituted a number of things.
One of which is withholding new forum members from posting pictures or links until they have made 10 posts. That gives us enough time to sort out most of the spammers from the regular forum members. Another measure we had installed is 5 posts in 24 hours limit to new forum members. Once you get past 10 posts both of those restrictions are automatically removed.
Forums want new threads and posts and welcome new forum members. This may upset some people and they may vent about it. Perhaps just ask why there is a limit. An easy way to get your post count up is to go to our Introductions forum and introduce yourself. Then maybe take a couple of minutes and greet some other new forum members.
Thank you.

I have a 1985 Trek 410 - very similar - nice bike that I converted to 650b. If your 400 is an "Elance" made from Reynolds 531 steel then you might get a little more.
Vintage Treks generally sell pretty well, - there is a fan base for them. But vintage bikes in general are under-valued in my opinion - good for buyers, bad for sellers.
The price I quoted was for a local sale in my area using Craigslist. If you check ebay, you may find sales of the exact bike you have and this would be good info. But selling on ebay is more hassle because you have to ship it, have a Paypal acct., etc.
Good luck and don't feel bad - that's a fine bike.
