That supple guy from YouTube might be on to something....
Any one ever seen that guy on YouTube who keeps putting "supple" boutique tires that I've never heard of onto supple boutique bikes that I never heard of (and Rivendels)? He's always on about how comfortable the ride is. Yea. You've got a set of $200 tires on a $6000 bike. It better be supple. Anyway, a couple of years go I bought a set of super-floppy Chllange Fango tires for my Tricross. They had cute little knobs on them. Adorable. The guy at the bike store told me that they would wear out quickly if I rode them on the pavement, and since I mostly only ride on pavement with this bike, I kept the stock tires on her. So, for whatever reason, I got it under my skin that I wanted to start putting this bike into it's natural environment and slapped those on it. These babies are 300tpi gunwale donuts of joy! They aren't particularly wide and don't run particularly low pressures and I was quite dubious of the installation process, but they are on and they are wonderful. Is it the high TPI count or the gunwales that are making them so...plush? Or a combination of both? I've only got a dozen or so likes on them so far but I really like how these tires ride. I'm seriously starting to reconsider the shoes that I have on my other steeds now.

Me Choosing tires at the LBS:
ME: "Show me the tires that fit this rim, are puncture resistant, are for pavement, and have a little bit of tread on them".
LBS Employee: "All these in this section."
ME: "Now which on is cheapest, I'll take two of those."

I mean, welcome to the world of cyclocross racing tires? Those won't feel so cute on the terrain they were designed to be ridden on in the manner they're intended for.

Russ Roca is the guy from Path Less Pedaled, who talks about the supple life. Google Rene Herse and read the blog over there, or subscribe to Bicycle Quarterly, to go down a supple rabbit hole.
Be warned, his opinions are polarizing, although there seems to be supporting evidence from people not Jan Heine regarding tire width. "Planing" is a whole different matter and the guy draws controversy, basically other guys who will be badly triggered by the mere sound of his name and will have an angry cry while denouncing his theories.
It all gets a bit much for some at times:
