Love these bags and have had three of them, two are forever keepers. Gotta say though I'm not loving the shape of the new large saddlebag. Glad I've got mine.

what are peoples experience/comparison between large and small seatbags?

I have a medium and it is spacious. IMO, the distance between the straps is a tad long but not too long for my C-17.

I really like the mini-saddle bag. Mine currently contains two spare tubes, two tire levers, PrestaCycle ratcheting tool kit, small multi-tool, and my rain jacket:
