A couple who finally realize: 1) other people notice that they are jerks; and 2) they are morons, get rid of their Hummer.

For Janna Jensen, it was the dirty looks and nasty gestures from other drivers that finally persuaded her to give up the family's $55,000 Hummer H2. Her husband, Michael, meanwhile, was tired of the $300 monthly gasoline cost and the quality problems that began soon after they bought it.

Link no work. edit: nevermind. you fixed it.

Anyhow, freakin' butt ugly vehicle driven by bad drivers.
Not to mention the horrid gas mileage.
If I was to drive a vehicle with that horrible mileage I would at least pick something that could be usefull like a f350.

haha i've flipped off a hummer before... while riding my bike. And I always have negative thoughts when I see them. Sure use a car if you HAVE to, but damn u don't need a hummer to do the job.

The H2 is pretty much the same thing as a Suburban. It's built on the same chassis. It just has different style body panels. Many of the suburbans I see around here are never fully utilised for which they were designed and I'd have to say this holds true even more so for the H2. As a matter of fact, I'm really hard pressed to understand what the design purpose of the H2 really is beyond looks. I've never seen one offroad although there is a funny video of someone attempting to take one over a very mild obstacle and ended up blowing a CV joint because he didn't know what he was doing.

Haha, I read that, think it was yesterday or saturday, and thought about posting it here (still too lazy to register or remember my username and password)

Although I think the H2's are a far cry from the older military grade hummers, I still think they're way different then the suburban, well I dunno, thats just my experience from driving a few different ones...

That's an understatement. The H2/H3 are really different classes of vehicles entirely from the H1. The H1 has specialised four-wheel independent suspension with geared hubs. The H2/H3 have independent front suspension with traditional driveshafts and rear leaf suspension with a solid axle. The H1 has the CTIF system in its wheels. The H2/H3 have hubcaps which make them look like they have CTIF when they really don't. The H1 uses a turbodiesel engine. The H2/H3 use petrol engines. The H1 uses three Torsen torque-sensing differentials. The H2/H3 use an Eaton electric-activated locking rear differential. The H1 has an exhaust and air-intake system that can be easily modified for schnorkel operations. The H2/H3 has a hood panel that makes it seem like it has a schnorkel interface when it actually doesn't. The H1 has a unique chassis based on the original M998 HMMWV chassis. The H2 has a chassis based on the Chevy 1500/2500/Silverado series which is also used in the Suburban. The H3 chassis is based on the same one used in the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon trucks. The H1 has 72/38 deg approach/departure angles with a 29 deg breakover and a 16" running clearance. The H2 has a 40/40 deg approach/departure angle with a 25 deg breakover and 10" of running clearance. The H3 has similar offroad angles with only a little over 8" of clearance. In short, the H1 was built for offroad in mind. The H2/H3 were built with offroad as a possibility.

The handling is likely different. The H2 has a higher sprung and unsprung weight than the Suburban I believe. It's also equipped with different tyres thus this makes road handling a bit different.

I have a bit of experience with the H1. I can't say much about driving experience with the H2 or H3 though. I keep up on them from an interest standpoint of a person who does ORV driving however. For me, an H1 is overkill and over my budget. I can get by with my Jeep for the type of offroading I do. And truth be told, there are plenty of places where an H1 is simply too big and unwieldy... both offroad and in normal traffic. Like many tools, they have their place but for far too many they're wholefully out of place. The H2 and H3 are tools of another sort... marketting tools to sell an image that is usually not backed by any substance.

The H2 is basicly a toy for the rich, just a toy, it has no realistic purpose beyond trying to impress someone. I dont know who would even be impressed by a hummer. Even people who like there jeeps and superduties hate hummers. At least jeeps excel off the road and a superduty is utilty hauler/work truck. I understand some people require a vehicle, but at least choose a vehicle that suits ones needs.

How 'bout if the consumer decides that a vehicle that meets his need for fun (or impressing people) is a toy like the H2? Who will man the "need" police and tell him his "needs" don't match the "approved" list of "needs?"

If you're making major life choices based on what you think is going to impress people, what you NEED is counselling, NOT a hummer.

Twice in the past few months my daughter has told me about guys she's met at parties trying to use "I drive a hummer." as a way to impress her. They must get some mileage out of the line. If so, then the hummer satisfies a social need.

Lotsa room in the back of a Hummer for manueverability for that quick "social need".

When I was a kid a hummer was a BJ. When I heard you could buy one I was stoked. Then I saw the pice tag.

Yep. How about the H1? How about a $18,000 jeep wrangler? Keeping in mind that $40% of the world's population gets by on no more than $2 per day, is a $18,000 vehicle that's meant for fun offroading a toy for the rich, or isn't it?

How 'bout if the consumer decides that a vehicle that meets his need for fun (or impressing people) is a toy like the H2?
Good point, ILTB! What do we do if people decide that their need for fun is best met by something that gives off vast amounts of carbon dioxide as well as smaller amounts of unburned fuel and various other poisons? What should we do?

Of course, the "freedom first" way is to say, if it harms nobody, then let 'em do it. (Which is people should be all for gay marriage, but against polluting vehicles that make me and other allergy sufferers hack and cough.)

I will admit, I don't hate hummers for the same reasons as you, but I will admit I hate them, and when I see them, I just feel sorry for the id10ts driving it, man that got to be a horrible gas bill, heck I feel sorry for any one that is a slave to the car. What other thing can you own that is a drain on your money like a car is. I worked it out once can found that a car (an ok one) would cost you 9K a year, for that you can get 5 computers, 4 good bikes, and still have money left over to have a lots of fun with
