Gearing wise, hard to beat the Roadlite CF 9 LTD. That 46t crank with 10-50 cassette is wide and fast, on a very lightweight hybrid. The geometry is also a low 1.4 stack/reach ratio like a drop racer. Only thing is to throw out those G-Ones for a GP5k or Pro1 slicks and it will fly. I've ridden it for 10 miles or so at a stretch, but not sure how comfy the geometry is for longer distances, being flat and low. My neighbor has no probs with 30 mile rides with it.

Owning both a Canyon Roadlite 9 LTD and a LiteSpeed Cherohala City set up as similar to the Roadlite, I can say the Roadlite is the fastest. However, at 73 and having CHF it's more about the engine. You can see both my threads on the bikes on the Hybrid forum. Oh and Sardines above talks about throwing out those G-Ones. But I disagree. I love these tires and have them on both bikes.

Not sure about the fastest but the Cannondale Quick 1 is no slouch. I have found myself maintaining a higher pace with mine than I expected.

One like mine except with a 48 t chainring and a 20 something year old legs vs. 69 year old. This is an old Trek USPS raw carbon with Ultegra 6500 at 17 lbs.

That's a sweet looking ride! If a town bike was something that made any kind of sense for me, I'd do something just like that with one of my old race bikes.

Well it really depends on what the bike is being used for? On asphalt, good road race tires will run away from any gravel tire, slick or not. And now with wider 34mm like the Pro One TLC 34-622 or the 32-622 GP5000 S TR, they can have reasonable comfort with decent protection, while doing it. The G1, depending on which one, are nice tires, but if primary use is asphalt roads, then it just can't beat a road tire. However, if volume and a bit of texture is needed for dry pack gravel etc, it comes into its own.

hybrid (or most any decent bike) will fly with a set of Pro One's or GP5000's
limited number of tires compare in the areas of rolling resistance / speed

A WABI Lightning with whatever ratio best fits your terrain. Freewheel side would be faster that the fixed.

Fastest I've gone on my Norco Bigfoot is 70 km/h. The tire howl was epic!

The fastest bike will be the one you feel most in tune with, both with components and geometry of the frame.
Things such as gearing, tires will only benefit the rider if the rest of the bike is right for you.
As for flat bars, I've moved away from them due to an elbow injury last year and would never look back even if I was able to ride them normally. There is more freedom of adjustment with drop bars and the hand positioning is safer with the neutral wrist angle. It's a must have for fast rides over a variety of different surfaces.

to improve this project needs to change the rims and the front hub, a cheap and losted in my stock shimano tx505 to a Deore.
