Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep! When his last felt broke, Felt sent him this one. 2010 F5, but in a colourway I don't think they offer in the states (at least from what I've seen)...

My 2004 Avanti Vivace.
Weight with all accessories is 7.9kg, was 10.5-changed wheels (currently on bike as pictured are M.O.st Panther CX's, 1495gms!), changed seat (Selle Italia SLR XP, 180gms), and have just changed pedals from pictured to Keo Carbons (230gms pair vs 200 odd each pictured).
I love my bike!

Well, it looks like the Trek is going bye bye after all. Spotted a crack in the frame 3/4 of the way through the seat tube. I'll be taking final pictures of her before she is disassembled, and lost for all time. I just got some Speedplays for it, new bar tape and rode it with them today. I even bought newer bar tape today, because I don't like the stuff that I did buy it was just the best the lbs had around here, gonna have to return it for a different color. Not gonna have a red, white, and blue bike anymore.

It could be worth something later. Maybe worth holding onto the frame until it's worth having Calfee or something repair it?

I messaged my friend that works at the local Trek dealer. He said he can get it warrantied for me, and they will get me the newest version which would be a 4.7 a Taiwanese made TCT piece of crap. Hopefully they will offer an upgrade to a USA made frame for not too much, but I am not holding my breath. The old frame has to be destroyed, so we are going to cut it in half longways so I can hang it on my wall, and they will have half too!

Well that stinks. On the other hand, you get a new bike, and if it had been sold, and failed while he was riding it.. lawsuit! So maybe it's not so bad that you held onto it, even if it is cracked.

Yeah, I am definitely glad that didn't happen. In the end I will get it back to hang on the wall. It sucks though, I have all these USPS kits, blue seats, and a matching helmet. I know they haven't offered such a patriotic color scheme since, and prob. never will. Plus they want to give me a Taiwan frame anyway.....Oh well, we will see how it goes....

Dude, I'll be lucky if I get a decent frame out of them. I've already decided a 4.7 is an unacceptable replacement for my 5200. If I don't get a 5.1 frame, I'll be livid. Getting them to paint it like what I am about to post, is going to be next to impossible. I leave you the RIP pics of my 5200. Sorry for the quality, all the cameras I ever get break so cell phone is all I use now.

Next time you guys see her, she will be cut in half, and all her organs will be transplanted to a new donor.

Your cameras break, too?

I think that 5200 was doomed when it entered into your possession...

My cameras die under other people's control. I've not broken one, yet they always seem to be broken when I go to use them. The bike on the other hand was only used by me, and babied. It just experienced it's worst cleaning job. I lost all interest when I saw that fateful crack.

Get a shadow box made for your half. Maybe add a couple shots of Lance from that era. Maybe he'd sign it, too.

Yeah right. I rode a cancer benefit century with him a few weeks back. I finished an hour and a half after him. By the time I was done he was on his way back to Texas. Way to be there for your fans! I was lucky enough to ride with him for the first 25 miles. After that I dropped back for my ridepartner/wingman was dropped from our group, and I went back to find him. I wasn't up for the Challenge of bridging the the gap to catch him by myself after that with 75miles more to go, so I guess I suck, and can't meet him. Not to mention he had support vehicle bringing him supplies, and nobody else was allowed support vehicles. So it was near impossible to keep up with him unless you had like 4 water bottles when you started. It's hard to even see him, let alone get him to sign anything.

Good news guys. The frame is a okay! The cracking is in the paint, and it is common with the carbon frame Treks I am told. It is where the carbon lug meets the tube, and they are bonded together. So my nightmare is over, and I get to keep the bike. So that ugly bar tape is coming off, and the new Fizik stuff will be going on tonight, and I think, I'll even strip here down, and give her the thorough cleaning she deserves. I am so glad it went this way.
