Just a Sweet Evening Cruise

Western Montana has fires and Smoke up the Kazoo. Last night it was smoky and I wanted to ride without working and breathing a ton of smoke.

I did a 15 mile cruise without work. Just an easy cruise with power 1 or two. Most of the time I was at 17-20 mph and barely breathing.

I am an avid rider with about a dozen bikes. Last winter playing around I bought a mid drive bbs02 conversion kit from Luna Cycle and mounted it on one of my old 26" mountain bikes. I bought the 30 tooth sprocket and mounted it. I rode it some in the snow---what a mess---had a couple of great soft landings. However, I did not like riding the bike with the 30 tooth sprocket.--With no power I am spun out at about 12 mph, I want a higher gear so I can add human power to the ride.

I cleaned it up but I have been pedaling my other bikes a lot the last couple of months and the E-bike ended up in the back of my pile of bikes.

I bought a 42 tooth Lekkie sprocket and it is awesome. My 44 pound bike is now good to ride without power.

Now I can work at riding the bike and then turn on the power and fly.

My ebike experience

Funny, I did the same thing. Live up in the mountains of central Idaho and typically ride mountain bikes on the old forest trails. Just built a Salsa Fargo using a Jones bar instead of the drops. Added my Bafang motor kit and rewrote the software to give 9 levels of assist. Ride finished roads in 1 or off and climb up the hills in 3-4. Love the 2.25" tires and now doing 40-50 mile rides.

Snow, it is crazy how easy a 25 mile ride is with assist. Rarely use anything but 1 as I like to work. Also knowing that if I run out of juice I can easily pedal the rest of the way. 42 / 32 is a bit high of a gear for steep hills without assist but the key don't run out of juice.

What battery and voltage did you go with?

On my old bike I had a 42 front gear driving a 11-36 cassette, new bike is still a 42 front but a 11-42 cassette. Battery is a 52v 13.5Ah. Road down in MOAB last Soring and was getting about 65 miles per charge. But that was some pretty steep climbing in places, got up to level4 assist out of 9 levels a couple of times. Can't wait to stress out the new bike a little.
