A noob with new bike questions.
I am new to mountain biking and this forum and need some help deciding which mountain bike to get. I currently have a piece of junk walmart bike that was about 100 dollars and it’s time for an upgrade!!!
I don’t want to spend more than 700 or 800. And yes I know that at this price its mostly entry level bikes.
I have been by 2 local stores and 1 sold trek and 1 sold diamondbacks/raleighs. Both stores told me that a 29er would be a better choice over a 26inch. So I am going to try to buy a 29er. I test rode the trek wahoo and I overall liked the bike. (https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes..._sport/wahoo/#) I looked at the diamondback overdrive and it looked good too. (https://www.diamondback.com/29er_2012-overdrive) So can somebody who knows “bike language” compare the specs and see which one has better components?
Also are there any other good bikes at this price point I should look at? The trek dealer also said the frame has a lifetime warranty.
Thank you,

I bought a Giant Talon 29er in the price range you're looking at. Pretty nice bike IMHO. I love the hydraulic disc brakes. They are the bee's knees!!! It's worth checking out if you can find a Giant dealer near you.

Welcome To Bike Forums, Outdoorz!
Between the two bikes that you've listed, I'd say that your decision should be based solely upon the way that each feels, based upon your test-ride. Whichever one makes you feel more comfortable and is more fun to ride, that's your choice. Neither bike exactly pales in the shadow of the other. They're more or less equivalent in as entry level MTN bikes. However, if you absolutely know your size, a better bike can be found on bikesdirect.com.
The following MTN bikes would be better bikes IMO:
Fantom 29er Trail MTB ~ $500
www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom29_trail_xii.htm
The Windsor Cliff 4900 ~ $500
www.bikesdirect.com/products/windsor/windsor_cliff4900.htm
The Dawes Haymaker 1500 ~ $480

Good Luck!
BTW
How tall are you?
