Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need a disc wheelset recommendation

I don’t know the disc market and I’m looking for some light wheels. Shooting for best combination of weight and value: budget is $1100 (less is better) and 1550 grams or less. Material doesn’t matter. Thanks! Oh, and the ability to run tubeless.

I bought a set of Fulcrum Racing 3db wheels last year and they've been really nice. Note that the tool needed to install the rotors is different than the usual Shimano tool, but that's no big deal, really. Very well made wheelset. BTW, they're alloy.

I have Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels. Been using them for 2+ years on 2 different disc brake bikes, and have been very happy with them. They were shipped with Mavic Yksion Pro UST (700x25) tubeless tires, which I have been happy with. Don't remember the exact price the the entire setup but it was less than $900 from REI. Only 1 flat during the entire time. The piece of glass prevented the air from leaking out during my ride but I when I got home and saw the piece of glass, I used a Dynaplug plug to seal the hole. That was in the Spring. Have not had any issues with it since.

I have a set of FFWD F3As for the road, 30mm deep alloys, 1560g with DT350 hubs. Got mine for $450 with a sale code from PBK, currently $500. Stiff and well built with really good hubs.

If you want carbon, Boyd has a new wheel series, the Prologue, $1050 and lifetime warranty. 28mm and 44mm currently available. 28mm should hit your weight goal, 44mm is a bit more.

If you don't mind waiting, Light Bicycle and Farsports both offer quality, lightweight carbon options that tick all your boxes, just might have to wait a few months to get them.

Why hasn't the Light Bicycle Brigade swamped this thread, yet?

If you can stomach the lead times, they do have some very compelling values and a very good reputation among those that have purchased them.

Hunt wheel sets seem to meet the criteria.

Prowheelbuilder Signature Disc

Under 500 unless you go for fancy hubs. Weight is under 1,600g (especially if centerlock.)

FFWD F3R will fit the criteria you are looking for. I have their F4R and F6D wheels and absolutely LOVE them.
