Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

what I don’t get is why would you pass someone who has his hands off his bars at 19 mph. This is obvious bait, why would he take it if he didn’t want any part of it? Also he passed without as much as a hello, which tbh made me a little bit upset, might not have sat on my top tube while he was blowing up if he was more polite. I was on a hybrid with no kit and helmet hanging off my bars, so he probably thought I was a noob.
So that the accident happens behind him. It's like when you're driving on the freeway and there's an erratic driver ahead, and you have to decide whether to pass him so if he causes anaccident it happens behind you, or back way off so if he causes an accident it's far enough ahead you don't get caught up in it.

He didn't necessarily think you were a noob. He might have thought you were a careless rider.

I got the distinct impression that he wanted to pass me or thought he should be faster than me, because he was very annoyed when I rode next to him 10 seconds after he passed. He started the pass when I was slow (was making a turn onto canada from the college) and finished the pass when I was fast; he should have backed off when he realized what was happening if he didn't want to race me, or at the very least offer a friendly greeting so I don't feel the need to flex on him (supertucking on a 1% downgrade at like 21 mph for no reason)

MOST riders don't offer a greeting. I actually prefer it that way, and don't offer greetings myself. I'm not there riding to be social. I'm riding for me, because I enjoy it, and having to either greet others or acknowledge their greeting is a big goddam imposition on me by strangers.

You talk about others being "Cat 6", and having to race you, but maybe it's really just you who's Cat 6, seeing races everywhere. People who always have to prove something get really tiresome.

Also, you say he started to pass you when you were slow and finished when you were fast? You should have stayed slow while he passed and then, if the speed you were riding at was faster than his, passed him with no theatrics. If you were drafting him without invitation, that's another dick move. Probably instead of trying to ride you off his wheel - which is hard to do when the wheelsucker is 250 lbs on a downhill - he should have sat up and made you pass, and then gone on his way.

34 big ones this morning, with more left in me. And a knock down drop dead gorgeous day! We don't get days like this, in any season let alone this one. An imperial century kind of a day, if one were in shape for such. A few minutes ago we lost power, internet, and cell signal all in one fell swoop.

Our screen doors were getting old. The screens were falling apart, getting holes, ripping along the edges etc. The doors themselves were getting distinctly rickety. The rubber dogdoor flaps had fallen apart and had long since been replaced with vinyl sheets. SO, Mrs. GeneJockey called the company that did them for us 25 years ago come back and replace them.

So, now the screen door on the back has a brand new dog door, and the flaps are so heavy little Dory can't even move them to get out, and Rango is afraid of them and insists on us opening the door for him. Oh, well. Maybe this will stop him blowing through the door to go bark at the black Lab next door.

It was about 10 degrees colder upon the hills vs at home and it rained early, had to cut the ride short but it was still awesome. I found some pretty fun new dirt roads, got chased by a dog and potentially trespassed. Good times.

I took that as the Saudi's may not promise safe passage.

Interesting.

More likely to die walking or in a car than on a bike:

I’m beginning to think you are Larry Sellerz. Rides in your area, and it appears you are the only one who has “seen” him.
