Stuck r8000 shifter

Last week I took a spill - slow speed, no damage to me - and landed on my right shifter, and now it's stuck. The weird thing is, it was fine for several rides after that. It was only when i removed the rear wheel to do my normal cleaning and then replaced it that suddenly the rear derailleur wouldn't shift, and became stuck on the highest gear. After disconnecting the cable at the derailleur i determined the cable is stuck at the shifter. I can move the cable in and out at the derailleur end, and i can hear it moving in the frame. But the shifter doesnt move beyond a certain point.

I have wrenched my own bikes since i was 10, and can switch out bottom brackets and derailleurs, repack bearings on older bikes, etc. But I haven't had to deal with fluid brakes and internal cable routing as yet. Should I just go ahead and youtube it, and figure it out? That's my instinct, but when i pulled back the hood on the shifter, I realized i was in a whole other world. Do the more experienced mechanics out there have any guidance? Are any special tools required? Any insight would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

You might check the first 2-3" of the inner cable nearest the shifter for fraying.

You said R8000 shifter in your title. ST-R8000 are cable pulled rim brakes and cable pulled RD. So is this actually a Di2 ST-R8070 with hydraulic brakes?

Though the stuff you mentioned doing in the previous paragraph sort of contradicts that it's Di2. ST-R8020 perhaps?

OP states "After disconnecting the cable at the derailleur i determined the cable is stuck at the shifter. I can move the cable in and out at the derailleur end"

Doesn't sound like Di2

Why wouldn't you just wait for the OP to say. I saw the contradiction. Does no good for us to argue about what we suppose the OP meant.

Who's arguing ?

I simply read the entire post and passed along my understanding of the issue at hand.

But can't you see or understand that it's totally unnecessary to make such responses that just start cluttering up the thread? As I said, I'd saw the contradiction and indicated as much in my post.

The Di2 wire or cable as many refer to it can be disconnected at the RD.

That's a fine comment...

It might appear that the clutter began when you brought up Di2.

No Barry2 , It began with you trying to help when help wasn't ask of you. My question is for the OP as they are the only one that can definitively answer it. Though I suspect you are correct as to the OP having cable pulled RD.

Sorry for the confusion. It's not Di2, it's just a regular old Ultegra 8000 cable shifter/fluid brake lever:
