av8n are you talking to me?
I like the giant revolt advanced 2 or 3 for a fun fast lighter gravel bike. My Salsa Journeyman is great but with rack and fenders it tips the scale around 30-31lbs. It is has byways so not the most aggressive tread. I like something similar to the venture for a tire on a gravel bike

Been in Chicagoland this weekend, so this is from a mixed surface ride around some southwest suburbs.
It was paved road and crushed stone trails, but fun...even if Chicagoland is as flat as Florida.

I took my 93 Giant Innova on it's maiden voyage since a rebuild. It's a keeper I loved it. 55km 4768ft of climbing.

Finally back on the saddle after spending the best part of three months inside... A friend and I went into the Vexin Regional Park (made famous by impressionists painters, Van Gogh's very last days in Auvers sur Oise etc...) and followed the tracks of a gravel race called Gravelxinoise. There are a couple of versions, one with 70km and 1000m of positive climb and another with 100km/1600m... we did the shorter one which was already quite hard ! Really love the Vexin though, barely a hour away from Paris by subburban train and you're surrounded by nature.

I fought 4 different road graders on today's 35mi ride. Apparently Dallas County DOT was out in full force today!

Looks like the new build needs a good clean already. Had a great day in the clouds. Rained all day and ice cold.
As an experiment to myself put some 35mm Sammy Slicks on because I know there as quick as road race tires. Being mostly a road ride today they didn't disappoint transforming the bike to roadbike then at high pressures handled wet slippery rocky trails no problems if a little harsh. I recommend them if they can still be found to buy.
A few things, my front shifting is adjusted nicely now and my new waterproof jacket worked a treat, changed the power saddle copy to a Serfas Perfect Flex, real nice perch that and the bikes proving a great allrounder.

Should we share video here too ... or a new thread for edits?
This is my edit from the Pandemic-World Edition of the Westside Dirty Benjamin. I rode to/from the start for a 131-mile day, great day riding but really highlighted that 2020 hasn't been my best endurance training year.

I finally have pictures from a gravel ride. I rode in the Mohonk Preserve which happens to be the number 1 rock climbing destination in the country. The trail I took is, at times, almost a shear cliff downward on one side of the trail and another upward on the other side. Pictures don't capture this, even It is almost completely covered by shade, which I love. There are a few spectacular views of large hills in the distance. The Preserve is on the Shawangunk Ridge in Ulster County, New York.
My gravel bike is still under construction, so I took my McLean, an old steel road racing bike with 28mm tires. With the roughness of the trail and the steep grades, some would call me crazy for riding it on this bike, but I'm used to it.
My ride was partly on roads (also gorgeous) and partly on the trail. Here is my RWGPS recording of the ride. 19 miles, 1,600 feet of vertical climbing.
I think I am looking to the east here
The Shawangunk Ridge is in the background

Rode today from Riverton to Saddleworth on the Heysen Trail and back. I guess no one here would have a clue without googling haha. Only 45km but took most of the day due to hard conditions.

I love your pictures. I suspect the amount of fun you had is proportional to the amount of mud you picked up.

Here's my actual route for the day and a shout out to the Relive app. I use it for navigation also, it shows every obscure track by name and tracks my exact position in relation to the map. The final video is different to using the app. I traveled from saddleworth back to riverton along a disused rail line which was fun.

Thanks it's huge fun just getting out in the elements I don't want it to end. It's the cleaning afterwards that balances it out later. It looks like the cassette, derailleur and cranks should come off to clean properly there so caked. But I never had any shifting or braking issues all day either which is good.

I have been exploring N. Virginia these days, great gravel riding. Making me think about buying a dedicated gravel bike. Currently riding my ancient but steady Miyata 1000 using Soma Vittesse and Ritchie Speed MAx tires. A tire upgrade in process, moving to MSO's 38's

Either Rt630 or Rt740. Great area!!! I'm going back soon. Water is an issue for longer rides. I might stash some water around mile 40-50.

It was somewhere along the first loop of this ride.

My bike can hold three bottles, so I’m OK for water up to 50 or 60 miles. I like Rides4Beer’s suggestion to use a lightweight endurance runner’s backpack to carry enough water for even longer rides.

Thanks! I actually know of that ride, but have never done it. Any idea what percent of the route is gravel? As a return favor, I’ve done this route, which has some beautiful scenery and is about two thirds gravel:

My ride near Middleburg was about 75% gravel. When you hit the pavement it feels so smooth and fast, you actually welcome the change. There is a third loop and fourth loop that can get routes up to 60-80 miles.

Back on the Innova this Sunday. Rode from Riverton to Clare along smooth gavel rail trail, about 100km's all up including side tracks for sight seeing. I'm guessing baised on having done it before because the phone died in the last few km. The time in total was 6 hours so the phone did well to last as long as it did.
The tires rolled fast at 60psi, only saying because I've mentioned before from my first ride with them they were slow on the road at very low off road pressures. There very good tires and always have lots of traction.
Closed! Hopefully not a covid casually

Pre war Super Elliott. Not sure what level it was but Elliotts made good high end race bikes. Any who it was much lighter than my bike!!
A loner monk built this for himself in 1870 for himself to meditate in.
