I wear a cycling cap on every ride. Mostly to avoid scalp burn stripes. It also absorbs a lot of sweat. Most of my caps are cotton but they do come in synthetic quick dry if you want.

I haven’t had sweat run into my eyes since I started wearing the hat.

I usually do too, but I sweat a lot less without it. If it's 80° or more, I leave it at home. Fortunately, I don't really have to worry about sunburn up here in the PNW.

The OP seems to be concerned about sweat during a race or group ride. So... wear the sweat band and keep moving.

I can't say about a 100+ mile race. For my rides, I usually stop periodically, air out the sweat band, and turn the driest part forward. T-Shirt drying face? A synthetic jersey may be less effective for that.
